This letter from State Representative Jason Morgan is profoundly disappointing. Ann Arbor has committed again and again to Vision Zero, and our staff work hard to design safe infrastructure. This attempt to undermine that effort is embarrassing. #A2Council a2gov.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=...

“Clear and convincing evidence.” So that’s the evidentiary standard for building pedestrian and cyclist safety infrastructure? Do I need clear and convincing evidence to build a road for cars? What are we even doing here?

Anti-safety advocates tried to stop the city from putting in this sidewalk on a route to 3 schools. They fought it at every step, driving in from across town to pack public meetings and the neighborhood walk-through. It’s exhausting having to battle for every foot of sidewalk. But we won! #a2council

This is a gut-punch. Tommy was a great guy. May his memory be a blessing.
York
It is with heavy, shattered hearts that we share the news that beloved partner, friend, father, and community pillar Tommy York has passed away at home. May his memory be a source of love and comfort for all of us who knew him. He gave with his entire self - always, with no exceptions. He loved others and supported his community selflessly for more than four decades. He will be deeply missed
and has left us all feeling determined to make the most of the time we all have and to live like Tommy: caring for others, giving generously, being authentic, and smiling daily. Please respect the York family's privacy at this time and know that further updates will be shared as appropriate. We are all better off for knowing Tommy. We hope you have support around you today as you grieve the loss of this legend. Rest in peace, beautiful soul.

Laidlaw got a letter from the city explaining the redactions and denials. Laidlaw’s had two FOIA cases tossed out of court in the last four years, so as between him and the city’s legal staff, you think it’s Bruce who has the right side of this? The guy posting photos from the scene of a suicide?

Backloading step (2) is probably good politics for A2P2, just like it was for Library Green in 2018 when they amended the City Charter to create an unfunded center-city park on a parking lot, but it's bad process for the city and for taxpayers.

Daniel Adams @danieladams.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
The right way for gov't to do hard, expensive things is to (1) study the thing, (2) figure out how to pay for the thing, and then finally (3) do the thing. The A2P2 BI has the sequence 3, 1, 2: amend the charter to do the thing, then study, then figure out how to pay.

Should Ann Arbor build housing on city golf courses? Council candidates discuss
One of the questions posed to Ann Arbor’s 1st Ward City Council candidates Monday was whether they’d support selling or leasing city golf courses to build housing.

Daniel Adams @danieladams.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
"Classes struggle to mix well." I'll let you decide how to interpret this comment by #a2council candidate Rebecca Arends: as an argument against including affordable units in market-rate housing projects, or an as argument in support of exclusionary zoning writ large. Either way: A doozy.

Daniel Adams @danieladams.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
Correction/clarification: I didn't mean to suggest that (a) and (b) necessarily happen in that order. Public housing and power would invert the sequence: debt first, then whoops we can't actually service this debt with existing revenue.

Should Ann Arbor seek takeover of DTE Energy? Mayoral candidates debate
Yousef Rabhi, who has been part of the grassroots Ann Arbor for Public Power campaign for several years, debated the issue with Mayor Christopher Taylor.

Rabhi's comments at Monday's forum should alarm #a2council voters. Every central plank of his platform--housing, public power, in-sourcing staff work--is unfunded, and Rabhi's plan to pay for it all is literally (a) hope it pays for itself, and when it doesn't (b) load the city up with debt.

Now, she says she's not asking the city to discipline me (a Ward 1 resident) for gently poking fun at her campaign. She’s just asking questions. Qs like: What standards would apply? How would that work? Who files the report? All questions a person might ask innocently, without any agenda.
