It has been a real pleasure to dive deep into the wonderful world of the unique and peculiar shape of the neutrophil nucleus, together with Ananda and Irina in the @udalovalab.bsky.social, and I'm proud this literature review is now out in @natrevimmunol.nature.com. rdcu.be/ePKFk

Wang, Kim, Ding et al. of the Qing Deng lab demonstrate that inward-rectifying potassium channels maintain the resting membrane potential and are required for directional sensing during #neutrophil chemotaxis. rupress.org/jcb/article/...

1) Dr. Vanessa Velasco gave preliminary results on OMF's new neutrophil study. She found that neutrophils of ME/CFS patients died quicker and more often than those of healthy controls, under inflammatory conditions.

A 52-year-old man with a history of splenectomy and hypogammaglobulinemia after CAR T-cell therapy for lymphoma 3 years earlier was admitted with septic shock. Encapsulated diplococci were seen in 20% of neutrophils. Read the full case details: nej.md/4oap9GL #MedSky #IDSky

We've published our very first clinical study where we found that chronic low back pain rhythmicity contributes to biopsychosocial outcomes, including opioid use, via the neutrophil degranulation pathway t.co/0yFdJemScW

#WeekendRead! #BeyondNETosis! @caroleparentlab.bsky.social @sbarya.bsky.social &co show @natcellbio.nature.com that neutrophils can secrete nuclear-derived exosomes containing LTB4 & DNA which direct migration but at also favor inflammation resolution via neutrophil retrotransmigration!

Neutrophils secrete exosome-associated DNA to resolve sterile acute inflammation - Nature Cell Biology
Arya et al. report that migrating neutrophils resolve acute inflammation by releasing exosomes associated with nuclear DNA. This process is distinct from the release of neutrophil extracellular traps,...

𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐜𝐲𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬 is the process by which a phagocyte (a type of white cell such as macrophage, monocyte, or neutrophil) engulfs large particles, usually pathogens or debris from dead or dying cells, and removes them from the bloodstream. #MedSky #ScienceSky

This is a technical feat showing the progress in sample processing an instrument sensitivity, as we estimate we inject 30pg of protein content from a single neutrophil. Yet we can detect >3,000 proteins from 500 neutrophils and >1,100 from a single GBM associated neutrophil!
