The extraordinary feature of this conceptual structure is that is has no apparent basis either in fact or in theory."p21

🚨 ENDORSEMENT ALERT 🚨 Chancleta has been endorsed by a family of three random raccoons who saw him from outside. One of them even stood on our patio chair on two legs, like a person. This is incredible news for Sandal's campaign to represent whatever it is he is running for.
A mock political endorsement graphic on a blue gradient background. At the top left is a photo of three raccoons beside the words “A FAMILY OF THREE RANDOM RACCOONS.” Below, red text reads “PROUDLY ENDORSES,” followed by “CHANCLETA” in large white letters. At the bottom right is a large photo of Chancleta, an orange-and-white cat looking directly at the camera.

I’m not saying private foundation support for social science and education research is bad. Not at all. I’m just saying that it’s not a substitute for public research funding and it definitely gives foundations more leverage over researchers, disciplines, and institutions.

At an even more basic level, it's like: advice for ... what? There is no agreement on what counts as success and how to measure it. How could advice be useful when the goal is already massively underspecified and under significant normative contestation?

I would like to submit Jamie Wyeth’s 1980 painting “A Very Small Dog” for consideration.
An ornate white wicker pram rolls on thin metal hoop wheels through a sun dappled garden. Inside the pram, barely visible, is a tiny ferocious dog—likely a Pomeranian—with its gross little teeth bared. You can imagine the awful snarling and barking sounds it is making.

It's Knife Ghost season.
A pumpkin patch. In the distance, a faint image of a blue ghost surrounded by a halo of carving knives. The text reads: you're carving. The knife ghost waits. Because you're using a knife. Instead of a pumpkin carving kit. Always use a pumpkin carving kit, never a knife.

The Constitution allows it. South Korea has proven it works. If you want to make impeachment viable—and so much else is pointless if you don't—then it can be done by a simple majority adopting a simple rules change: vote on the verdict by secret ballot.

A Democratic Senate Should Adopt Secret Impeachment Ballots on a Priority Basis
Such a change, requiring no constitutional amendment, would free senators to vote their judgment instead of their fears

Finally, it's a matter of research integrity that one designs and performs the best study possible at any given point in the scientific process, given the resources, where best = one that has the highest probability of producing net epistemic gains. 50 years later, the original design ain't that.

Replication cannot be an epistemic shortcut to bypass the scientific process of incrementally eliminating error. At this point I find this kind of lack of understanding and lack of respect for the scientific process infuriating. There are no shortcuts.

We, the US people, can change those incentives, via a tremendous lever: university revenue is largely tax exempt, because of the good they do for society. It's not crazy to say that exemption only applies if board members are chosen for their educational or research qualifications. We can try it. 3/

Establish that violations of the Emoluments Clauses and the Establishment Clause are impeachable. Establish that war crimes are impeachable. None of these require the mens rea questions that so sidetracked the first two Trump impeachments. The facts are the facts.

I'm not naive enough to actually believe this will happen, but Democrats could be preparing, right now, lists of impeachment charges against (at a bare minimum) Hegseth, Kennedy, Mullin, Patel, Blanche, & Trump, as well as Bondi, Bovino, & Noem (still worth doing!) that rely purely on public facts,
