See you next week Dublin! Still can’t believe it sold out and moved to a bigger venue - absolutely wild.

I wouldn't describe it as brain power; just a complete lack of any sense of purpose or vision or strategy. It's all short term-ism and sound bites. Just a moral vacuum waiting for the next opinion poll to tell them what to do

The fine for riding an e-scooter without a hi-viz vest, so that a careless motorist *might* see you (€100), will be higher than the fine for the same motorists if a Garda stops them for driving carelessly (€80). 🤷‍♂️

We should only grant permission to new data centres if they meet some basic environmental conditions - use renewable energy, leave enough over to allow us to decarbonise the grid, and connect to district heating schemes instead of wasting heat and water.

I was listening on the radio to the president of the IFA, Francie Gorman welcome the extended fuel excise cuts, make an unprompted attack on carbon tax and the immediately launch into how farmers are struggling due to the hot summer as if there was no relation between those items…

I've heard Michael FitzMaurice say the same thing on Galway Radio. Without sheep grazing, the mountains were left unmanaged; so the *obvious* solution is to bring back sheep; not to manage the mountain.

If I was a conspiracy theorist, I’d think the government are primarily doing this to protect car dealerships. New car sales are down 16% vs 2016, while the population grew by nearly 13%

You sometimes see Government TDs pointing out that Ireland isn’t unique in the world in having a housing crisis. But this graph in today’s Financial Times shows just how extreme ours is compared to the places elsewhere, which also describe themselves as a in a housing crisis.
The share of young adults living with their parents is climbing in many countries and cities, with Ireland leading the way % of people aged 25-34 who live with their parents. National averages vs major regions

[5 line graphs. Ireland’s is sharply above 40% since 2010. The rest show US, U.K., Canada and Australia. The next highest result is the US at just over 20%]

I think it's made look worse when compared to strong sense of purpose the Greens brought to the last government, and before that we had Covid and Brexit that kept the government's focus sharp and clear. Now it's much more muddled.

Last week, I questioned the Minister Seán Canney, on this. Disappointingly, he deflected focus from the shortcomings of the RSA as a state body to discuss how “we all have a responsibility in saving lives on our roads.” When everyone is responsible, no one is responsible, Minister.

Where the school survey indicates any significant proportion of parents wanting a denominational school to be non-denominational; then that should be listened to. Forcing a religious ethos on a minority is a much greater harm than not having the desired religious this of the majority

If your response to the racist riots in Belfast is to talk in anyway about immigration, then the rioters win. Same with the fuel blockades earlier in the year; if you accede to their demands in anyway, you just embolden bad actors to cause more disruption in the future

The only really interesting thing from it is the sorting order of the centre-left parties. Even if a right winger wins now, there's 100% a second seat for the centre left in a GE, and whoever is on top of the pile now will have an advantage next time out
