This is a vital message: one of the larger reasons BlueSky is refreshingly free of alt-right shitlords is because in the early days we made a gentleperson’s agreement to starve these fuckos out and it worked. No likes, no quotes, no engagement. They got bored and left. Please keep the Old Ways.

Just be prepared. We've all seen that headline going around today that Bluesky is the current #1 app, and X dropped out of the top 25. That means the absolute worst people in the world are going to be coming here trying to turn THIS place into just as much of a shithole. Block them. Don't engage.

the ol' bsky is bigger than it used to be, so I'm just gonna put some stuff out into the aether: -- if you have a left-ish publication that's open to syndicated content, please consider TMW! -- I am still on the hunt for a book publisher to put out my next compilation. Please share this around.

This place was built it large part by a wave of trans early adopters and it’s a fucking insult that the mods here are letting a deliberate troll like Singal set up shop here to bully and harass them. This isn’t a hard call, guys. Not at all.

It would seem today is a good day to repost this educational thread:

kinda feel like the Bsky team won't listen to trans users about this, so I'll say it as a Cis Person: I don't want Jesse Singal on here spreading his lying hateful "just asking questions" bullshit. he is not acting in good faith, he causes active harm, and he adds nothing worthwhile to this platform

Bluesky tip for newbies: Bluesky has no real algorithm. Likes here do nothing but show the poster that you enjoyed their content. That kindness is always going to be appreciated by creators, but if you want to help to boost something here, you have to repost it so others see it. 🙂

I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1

As the Twitter exodus continues, here's what will happen: The rancid 'own the libs' rage-baiting accounts WILL come here, because their entire empty existence is predicated on feeling like they're making others upset. Here's what NEEDS to happen: Block, block, block those accounts. Do NOT engage!

Also, new folks, please know that when it comes to trolls, jerks, chuds and other undesirables here in the sky, we subscribe to the idea of “Don’t Engage, Just Block.” The block function is superpowered and expunges them entirely from your timeline. They hate it! Block with wild abandon! Don’t wait!

for the benefit of new users, Bluesky has a "nuclear block" that really destroys engagement and these guys live on engagement. they don't stick around when it gets cut off. block this guy

Hey new Bluesky users: this website has no centralized algorithm. If you think it seems dead in here, it's absolutely not. However, you are going to have to follow more people than you did on Twitter to see a lot of action in your Home feed.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #729,248!

The graphic celebrates Bluesky reaching 10m users - I was no. 729,248 joining Bluesky, which puts me in the first 10% with a "Bluesky Elder Certified" stamp

Heads up, Bluesky has a new update that automatically toggles off all "adult content," forcing you to re-enable it to see anything. Probably just an oversight, still annoying as hell. Check your content filtering in the moderation settings!

Screenshot of the new content filtering settings, where a toggle switch at the top says "enable adult content" and is disabled
