The RIDE method still captured key aspects of signals well in our simulations. CPP waveforms also showed build-up rates that scaled with continuous attribute ratings that were completed after the experiment. This approximates how healthy/tasty/desirable they thought each food item was. 15/n

We did find some amplitude variation around the time of the response, but based on additional simulations and inspection of our data we believe this is a by-product of our RIDE deconvolution method. These methods aren't perfect and we are open to exploring better ones with others! 14/n

The CPP had morphologies that closely resembled evidence accumulation dynamics across all three decision types. The rate of amplitude increase was steeper and occurred closer in time to the motor response for trials with faster decisions. 13/n

We also tailored our decision-making experiment to better separate the appraisal of food attributes (which takes time) from decision-making. We presented each food in isolation and then told participants which of 3 choices they would need to make. Response keys (L/R) were also randomised. 12/n

However, a re-analysis by Romy Frömer, @benediktehinger.bsky.social et al. cast some doubt on this interpretation. They argued that the observed patterns could arise from the overlap of stimulus- and response-locked signals (signal convolution). www.nature.com/articles/s41... 8/n
