ARC have postponed #FutureFellowships FT26 outcome announcements; currently can't even say when they'll be. It only last year they were bragging publicly – even to the Senate – that they were "meeting & beating" announcement windows … that they set themselves. Now they can't even do that.

so I'm in Nashville for the month and one of the biggest surprises is that it is extremely difficult find a gym. virtually all of the nearby gyms just feature classes and the Vanderbilt gym is for staff/students only.

I'm excited to announce that I had my first (co-authored) book published today! "The Rational Use of Cognitive Resources" with Falk Lieder and Tom Griffiths (@cocoscilab.bsky.social ). You can read it for free! (see thread)
Book cover. A silhouette of a person's head filled with colorful geometric shapes—perhaps symbolizing cognitive resources or deployment thereof. The style is attractive and modern, if generic.

I really need people outside of Seattle to know how much Krist Novoselic sucks
A screenshot of a Facebook post by Krist Novoselić:
A new proposal would prohibit clearing encampments unless local government provides higher levels of accommodation for shelter. Our state's ruling party is attempting to codify what appears to be a lifestyle. There's no longer any expectation of personal accountability.

Quoted post from Cascade Party Washington:
WA legislature proposal out of touch with worsening chronic addiction homelessness - read now in The Summit (independent press of Cascade Party WA).

Hey memory folks! I got a question from a student I couldn't quite answer. I talked about consolidation, and how HM's loss of 3-5 years of recent memories led the field to believe that consolidation might take the same period of time. A student asked - "why would it take so long?"

I had a REALLY lovely time talking to @milesklee.bsky.social at Rolling Stone about why The Onion is thriving. It's because we're one of the only legacy outlets unafraid to accurately reflect the mood of this country. That mood? Everyone fucking hates this. www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult...
We want to be able to say stuff that other people, for institutional reasons, can’t say, or they’re too afraid to say.

You may be the only CEO in America making that promise.
We’re in a unique position, certainly. And other places have to learn from this — being afraid all the time and just constantly making transactional moves. How long can you survive like this? What is even the point of being alive if you’re just gonna continue managing rot? And it seems like that’s what 98 percent of people are doing in these media companies right now. I don’t know, take a chance. Nobody likes what’s happening. Especially if you’re a journalism company or a media company, you’re [meant to be] actually reflecting what people want or what people believe. So get some guts and do something interesting. It’s not that hard.
