My first morning in the Omaze house. I didn’t sleep. I could hear crying from behind the door I’m not allowed to open. The only thing to eat is frozen prawns. I went for a wander round the 4 acre garden and found a box of VHS tapes marked ‘For the next one’. I’m sure it’s fine. I’m sure it’s all fine

Right maths teachers. In #mathstoday I am planning a problem solving SoL for KS3 using one lesson per fortnight of our extra timetable time. Think ICCAMS/ NRich/ Improving Learning in Maths - that kind of vibe. I’m doing ok but have spare sessions. Hit me with your fave tasks please! RT 🙏🏻

Some "Power Equations" , equations with indices, or whatever you like to call them. (And so detached from posting here I realise I don't have a clue what hashtag to use... 😐) Downloadable version with worked solutions here: kshancock.co.uk/lessonresour...
A white page showing four handwritten algebra questions, each inside a red rectangular box, about solving equations using indices.
The first box reads: “Solve: 3 to the power 2x squared times 27 to the power 2x squared times 21 to the power x minus 1 equals 7 to the power x times 3 to the power 6, all over 63.”
The second box reads: “Solve: open bracket 4x times 2 to the power x close bracket squared, times 100 to the power x, times 2 to the power 14 equals 5 to the power 2x over 2 times 4 to the power 2x.”
The third box reads: “Solve: 9 to the power three quarters times 5 to the power x times seven fifths equals 3 times the square root of 21 times 35 times 5 to the power x plus 1.”
The fourth box reads: “Solve: 5 to the power minus x squared times 6 to the power x times 10 equals 2 to the power x plus 1 times 3 squared times 25 to the power minus x plus three halves.

50 = 6² + ___

all talent really is? It's one thing that you have a knack for right away. That's all it is. it is a single pea buried in the mattresses of practice. You don't even have to have that one thing. Harping on talent is how they keep you from trusting you can do it. it's a grift.

Probability with Y12. I really like this RiSP about independent events, and this great MathsPad activity to practise the different definitions. It felt like we covered a lot in today’s lesson! #ALevelMaths #MathsToday
Addition rule for probability
P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A n B)
This is just a rule for not double-counting…
Illustrations of the addition rule for two events shown on a Venn diagram, a two way table, and a tree diagramA diagram showing special cases of the addition rule for mutually exclusive, exhaustive and independent events. Replace each of a, b, c and d in the Venn diagram with one of the probabilities below:
0.15
0.3
0.1
0.45

Work out P(A), P(B) and P(An B) from your diagram. Are events A and B independent?
Find a way of arranging the probabilities so that A and B are independent.
How many ways of doing this are there, if you are not allowed to repeat a probability?
What if repeats are allowed?1. Use the clues to complete the Venn diagrams
2. Which pairs of events are mutually exclusive?
3. Which pairs of events are independent?
4. Which pairs of events are exhaustive?
5. Prove that mutually exclusive events cannot be independent.
