Muskrats are cute wetland mammals that build burrows in the banks of ponds and streams. They have webbed hind feet for swimming and can stay under water for over 10 minutes. 🦊

Northern Flickers used to be a photography nemesis bird until one winter a pair of boys found the cafe. Now they bring lady flickers around and even the kids during the summer.

A male Northern Flicker on a snowy day. He is gold colored with a black patch on his chest, polka dots on his lower chest and belly, black bars on his wings, a black mustache, and a red blaze on the back of the head. The bird is sitting on a thick, snow-covered branch.

A male Northern Flicker on the left being approached by a hungry fledgling that is looking to be fed. There is the green of summer in the background and suet feeder to the right.

Richard Dawkins, Stephen Fry, JK Rowling… It’s a shame that a lot of people who I used to admire are turning out to be transphobic pieces of shit. They all seem to be “progressive for the 00s and haven’t grown as people since”.

Male Stonechat, black face and lighter head with white patches either side of its head at neck level. The rusty breast turns lighter as it moves down. Skinny little black legs and a short black beak.

Nobody ever planted a tree in this photo. It was a working gravel pit 30 years ago. We need to get over our obsession with planting trees and let nature do the job. The results are just SO much better. It's also about realising we are not, in fact, central to everything. 🌍

A striking Great Spotted Woodpecker perches on the rough bark of a pine tree, its bold black and white plumage standing out against the muted background. The bright red feathers beneath its tail add a vibrant pop of colour. Its posture exudes alertness and curiosity, perfectly capturing the essence of this iconic woodland resident.

Frigatebirds are aerial masters of the sky, able to swipe fish from other birds and snatch fish from the surface of the ocean! They stay aloft for weeks, but their feathers are not waterproof so they avoid getting wet. They also have tiny feet and if they end up in the water, they can drown. 1/4

Your eyes have different cells that sense red, green, and blue light. Red is a larger wavelength than green which is itself larger than blue. So there’s no magenta light because you couldn’t have a single wavelength which activates red and blue but not green. You can see it with two or more waves.

And if they can’t get Stalin 2.0, at least they can make people desperate. People who feel comfortable and safe don’t start violent revolutions so 4 years of Trump might just make people desperate enough to consider communism.

Trump isn’t a tragic cost auth-leftists pay to protest on Gaza. Trump was the goal all along. What auth-leftists want is Trump but left. Someone who will show absolute contempt for both the electorate and legal system to consolidate power.
