As I replay OoT, I'm reminded of just how often Navi reminds you were to go, how your next objective is blinking on the map screen, and how the owl introduces each new area. I can already imagine people complaining that the remake is hand-holdy because they also forgot how guided the original was.

Navi: "Impa said that the Spiritual Stone of Fire is somewhere on Death Mountain."

The map screen in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Kaepora Gaebora: "I will perch here and wait for you. When you're ready to go back down, I can help you! Now, get going!"

New Blog Post: Why I Love Unfair Traps in Arcade Games People usually dislike hard memo traps in arcade games, or at best think they're "not that bad". I love them, though, and I think arcade games would be worse without them. Here's why: duckberet.com/blog/i-like-... (game: Violent Storm)

The thing about all discourse about JRPGs, turn based combat, random encounters, whatever is that they don't even make RPGs like that anymore! Square, Atlus, they all listened to you! You guys got what you wanted and still complain online about it!

Secret that Nintendo Museum staff only tells you after you visit 23 times (sounds like an RPG secret side quest; URL in alt text)

X post by user R_GameTV (machine translation followed by original text):
Yesterday, when I went to the Nintendo Museum for the 23rd time, a staff member told me this little tidbit I'd never heard before despite having been there 23 times: "There's a Mew hidden somewhere inside the museum," and I couldn't believe my ears...
Then, with the hint they gave me, I went looking for it, and it was hidden in such a shocking spot that I was like, "No way anyone would figure this out." If they hadn't told me, I'd never have noticed it in my lifetime. Nintendo is insane...

There are a handful of remakes where I love both the new and original versions, and can switch between the versions any time (Resident Evil 1 and Wild Arms 1 being my top examples). I think I'm putting Trails in the Sky up there too.
