1/ When my daughter was 16, she was prescribed fluoxetine for depression. She became suicidal—a known side effect of the medication—but this was treated as a worsening of her condition. None of these risks were discussed with us, and as her parent, I didn’t know what questions to ask.

1/ Have we underestimated the biological component in the biopsychosocial model of mental health? Chris Palmer’s Brain Energy theory suggests metabolic and mitochondrial health play a key role. Could this change how we view conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or OCD?

2/ How long can I take meds before brain adapts and reacts with withdrawal, making tapering difficult? And how does "medication on demand" fairs in comparison to "maintenance tx"? Are these dumb questions? Has this been addressed in research already?

1/ If I had a manic or psychotic episode, I would want tx with meds in the acute phase. But I would prefer an alternative to "maintenance therapy" bc it's based on flawed evidence. I think of tapering after acute phase (before brain adapts) and reinstating at recurrence. >

Why do we focus on mental health symptoms without considering their causes? An older person with a UTI might experience confusion or delusions, but these clear up once the infection is treated. Dr. Chris Palmer’s Brain Energy urges us to explore how physical issues can drive mental health symptoms.

Our poor health and rising metabolic diseases aren’t just personal failures, they're outcomes of manipulation. The food industry promotes addictive, processed foods; Big Pharma profits from managing symptoms, not curing disease; and the healthcare system thrives on treatment rather than prevention.
