Mayor Bass: This morning, it was frightening in Los Angeles to see tanks essentially rolling into MacArthur Park. It was an egregious show of force. I have no idea what their purpose was. I don’t even think they detained anyone. Los Angeles was peaceful before June 5. We need to go back to that.

My neighbor gave me this small tree several years ago. She calls it a mispero, which I think is also called a loquat. The fruit is delicious, similar to an apricot, and blooms in late fall.

#thecampfire Yesterday, @pmgibbs.bsky.social asked a bit about how I was settling in Michigan after my move from Colorado. I've been here 5 days and so far so good. This gorgeous tree will get a better photo later, I was being hounded by mosquitoes. Will answer more in the alt text.

New place is good. 50s home so lots of quirks but no ghosts.

Unpacking is incomplete. My moving truck with all the stuff has not arrived yet.

My house is on the outside edge of Kalamazoo, one block before it's "country" so I like that.

Really easy drive to a big store and a really pretty drive to a smaller grocery. Farmers market is close, Saturdays only.

I have not seen lightning bugs yet but my husband has. Shame on him for not showing me.

I will check on night skies tonight. Might need a short drive for more stars.

Cat is adapting.

All in all, we are settling okay!

Juniper (Juniperus sp., Cupressaceae) with ripe berries.
Spontaneous in the Mediterranean environment, it is a plant with little water requirement, so it's easy to find it where aridity predominates during the year. The wood and berries are notoriously appreciated for their aromatic qualities. Juniper wood, red in color and with a typical resinous aroma, is used for carving and, to a small extent, to flavor the smoking of foods; the berries are used as a spice for sauces, gravies, game dishes and meat stews, as well as for the production of spirits and the extraction of essential oils. It was also once used in folk medicine to relieve digestive or rheumatic disorders.

In the 3 days hike in March, I found only two very small areas where this #lichen grew and, so far, I have not found it in other areas. Also, things that you only notice when you check your photos: there was a #harvestman right there and I had not seen it! #LichenFriends #FungiFriends #Photography

This weekend we went to the beach, where I read, my son played in the water with a friend, and my wife hunted sea glass. We went to a Cape League baseball game. We grilled. We talked to neighbors. We made a leisurely Sunday breakfast. We took photographs. We played games. It was a good time. 💙
