One of the reasons why I hate this season: since the end of May the fires have started to devastate the island; today alone there were 40 fires (!) for some of which it was necessary to intervene even with Canadairs and helicopters. And it's only the beginning of the season.

The color varies from light gray to beige, with whitish spots on the opisthosoma. The dividing line between the prosoma and the opisthosoma appears black. The legs are long and robust, with some black spines.Setaphis sp. ♂
The image is a little out of focus and the details of the spider are not very clearly visible, but you can appreciate the elongated body of almost black color and the legs that have the peculiarity of being black near the body and almost orange on the tarsus and part of the metatarsus. The first pair of legs, moreover, is slightly more robust than the others. It's a very fast spider!

Let's start the day with something beautiful :) Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus, Plantaginaceae) It's useful for obtaining dyes (dark green and gold). See ALT text for other properties :) Happy Sunday!! #Flowers #WildFlowers #WildPlants #Plants #Snapdragon #Nature #BotanicalCuriosities #Photography
A brench of common snapdragon with its beautiful bright pink flowers.
The Snapdragon is a plant with showy colored flowers belonging to the Plantaginaceae family and reaches a maximum height of 50 - 100 cm. According to folk medicine, some parts of this plant have anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. In ancient times this plant also had cosmetic properties; while for industry it is useful for obtaining dyes (dark green and gold).
Also, Gregor Mendel used it for his research on genetics and heredity.

Juniper (Juniperus sp., Cupressaceae) with ripe "berries" (seed cones). It was once used in folk medicine to relieve digestive or rheumatic disorders; see ALT text for current usages 🙂 hint: it smells GREAT!! #Juniper #WildPlants #ScentsOfTheWoods #Aromatic #Photography #Nature
Juniper (Juniperus sp., Cupressaceae) with ripe berries.
Spontaneous in the Mediterranean environment, it is a plant with little water requirement, so it's easy to find it where aridity predominates during the year. The wood and berries are notoriously appreciated for their aromatic qualities. Juniper wood, red in color and with a typical resinous aroma, is used for carving and, to a small extent, to flavor the smoking of foods; the berries are used as a spice for sauces, gravies, game dishes and meat stews, as well as for the production of spirits and the extraction of essential oils. It was also once used in folk medicine to relieve digestive or rheumatic disorders.

Allium triquetrum It's a spontaneous plant but it also grows well in a pot, in case you want to enjoy the beauty of its flowers or grow it on the terrace to use it as an aromatic. See ALT text for its uses :) #WildPlants #WildFlowers #ScentsOfTheWoods #Flowers #Edible #Aromatic #Nature #Photography
Allium triquetrum
Edible parts: flowers, leaves and bulbs, raw or cooked.
N.B.: if wild, make sure it is allowed to pick it first!
The bulb is harvested in early summer, when the plant is dead, and will keep for at least 6 months.
The leaves have a milder flavour than onions and are eaten raw or cooked as a substitute for leeks; they are available from late autumn until spring, and are nice in salads when young, or cooked as a green or flavouring when old.
The flowers are eaten raw and are juicy, with a slight garlic flavour; they have a tasty flavour and make a decorative addition to salads.Blossoms of Allium triquetrum. Since the stem is hollow and very flexible, the weight of the buds often causes it to bend to the ground.

Synema globosum, Thomisidae, is one of the species of spiders commonly known as "crab spiders", due to their morphology and typical position, with the first two pairs of legs larger and longer and always kept paired, which makes them look just like a crab; but it also has its own nickname: napoleon spider, due to the black pattern on its back that resembles the famous silhouette of Napoleon with his hat. Apart from the black silhouette, the color of the opisthosoma can vary from white to bright red, with all shades of yellow and orange in between.

The flower has 5 light/white colored petals with veins that can be blue, violet or light blue. Flowers can have different shades on the same plant and sometimes the background color of the petals is a lighter version of the color of the veins.
Leaves are greyish and softly haired, lanceolate to oblong, reminiscent of a dog's tongue (the plant owes its common and scientific name to them) and were once given as a remedy for dog bites.

Memories ♥ It's been 9 years and there still isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss them. They were my companions for 20 years of adventures ♥ #Cats #Paws #TabbyCat #TuxedoCat #CatFamily #Furiends
Front paws of a tuxedo cat (left) and a tabby cat (right) touching each other on a green pillow as the two cats (out of frame) lie down sleeping. It almost looks like they are holding hands.Three cats, two tabbies and a tuxedo, sitting or lying on cushions, enjoy the warm sun filtering through an open window. Their silhouettes, dark against the light, are outlined by fur that shines in the sun.

Nothing more typical than a dragonfly on the tip of a leaf of dry rush (Juncus acutus). #Invertebrates #Bugs #Dragonfly #Insects #Nature #Sky #BlueSky #Photography #WildPlants
Dragonfly on the tip of a dry rush leaf (Juncus acutus); in the background, a clear blue sky and a low hill.
Rush is a bushy plant whose stem and leaves are cylindrical in shape with a pointed, prickly tip (walking through it can hurt your legs even through pants); it prefers the humid areas of coastal regions with high levels of salinity and, due to the ease with which it can be found and the characteristics of its cylindrical leaves, it is still used today to make baskets, ropes, ties, and fishing traps. Furthermore, in the past, sailors took it with them on their voyages, because thanks to its high vitamin C content it helped fight scurvy.
