I was in a zoom meeting from 7pm till now. Only learned now that Dolly Parton passed away. All I can be glad of, is that Dolly gets to be united with her husband in the after life 🥲❤️

I feel a bit let down that La Ketchup is playing. Why no Bon Jovi or the Killers during the hydration break? (Yes, I know it is designated for the teams!)

I appreciate that they made the Dublin Trans March start 2pm today. Another W for anti corporate pride. Some prides start at midday or 11am which I believe is homophobic.

I am watching the England vs Norway match - just hearing that it is a whole 10C hotter than it was in Dublin (25C) today. And just as humid. My bf just said, according to FIFA rules, this match shouldn't be going ahead.

Not sure how well known this factoid is outside of Ireland so sharing it for the benefit of the rest of yiz Go Pico 🇨🇻🇮🇪
Lopes was born in Ireland to a Cape Verdean father and an Irish mother.[10] He made one appearance for the Republic of Ireland's under-19 squad in 2011.[11]

In 2018, Cape Verde national team coach Rui Águas became aware of Lopes' eligibility to play for the country and sent him a message on LinkedIn asking if he would like to declare. However, the message was written in Portuguese, which Lopes did not speak, and he ignored it believing it was spam. Nine months later, Águas followed up in English and Lopes, realizing his mistake, accepted the offer.[12] He made his international debut for Cape Verde in a 2–0 friendly win over Togo in 2019

Last night, I met a pal for a drink in North Strand after seeing a client. Big mistake. I couldn't get a taxi home, so got stuck on the luas in the trifecta of gigs: Two Door Cinema Club, Katy Perry and Robyn. Since Dublin is the second capital of Brazil. The Brazilian football fans.

Grateful, that my north facing apartment is paradise during the two weeks of the year, that we get nice weather. Otherwise, it is an ice box for the rest of the year.

Hi everyone, I am booked to do Dublin tour from tomorrow onwards. I haven't really gotten back to any inquires over the last few weeks, due to bereavement of a close friends. I returned from a lovely trip, which sadly ended up with my travel companion having her phone stolen.

Not the first or the last to make this point, but the protests really lay bare who is considered a “worker” by many people. Lads who run plant hire companies ✅, but Deliveroo drivers and women doing the admin in offices are the liberal elite

Jesus this is awful poor things
According to court records obtained by The Irish Times, Geoghegan was convicted in 2006 at Tullamore District Court of 13 counts of animal cruelty and neglect involving his cattle herd the previous year.

These included failing to ensure the animals had access to adequate food and water, keeping them in dangerous conditions and the “cruel ill-treatment” of 65 cattle.

In one instance, the farmer, whose address was listed as Cornaher, Kilbeggan in Westmeath, allowed a bull to become trapped between a pillar and concrete wall where it died, records state.

In another, the records state he allowed a bull’s hind leg to become entangled in wire, causing it extreme pain. Another animal was found with its head trapped in a field barrier. He also failed to bury an animal carcass as required by law.

Other charges included exposing cattle to dangerous conditions in the form of steel protrusions “likely to cause injury”. He was fined a total of €6,250, court records show.

Other records show Geoghegan, an agricultural contractor, has had six judgments for a total of almost €550,000 secured against him by the Revenue Commissioners.

Whatever the outcome of the current protests,a few things are evident-we have a government devoid of imagination on how to deal with any challenges facing us, & protesters should be very wary of being co-opted by bad faith far right actors (aka the gays did not cause the increase in fuel prices!!)

My other concerns from a workers's perspective is that the new owners will increase the cut they take. It could go from the current 20% to gradually increasing it to 30/40/50%.

Ohhh - thanks for the tip. It might be useful for others. It just kills me, when I see them used as presents for kids in Direct Provision, so that they can choose their present with one4all card. It is well meant. But they can't really use them. It isn't a present at all. Breaks my heart.

I know someone, who got an interview to work for Grammarly. He said to me he was never as glad to get a job. They could give Amazon a run for their money with their work culture. This is not surprising at all.

It is frustrating, as often they're giving out to marginalised communities to help them out (kids in Direct Provision). As groups often can't give cash out for a variety of reasons. Now, they essentially can't use them. That money has just gone to some company's profit margins.

The overpolicing on this train was something I had never seen before. I always book the G carriage, which is the quiet carriage. There were several announcements for people to be quiet on that carriage and security checking it regularly to see, if it was quiet. We were all quiet? Wild stuff.

So OTT! Up until 2020 you could buy cans from the trolley on Irish Rail. If I take Dublin to Belfast train, I can buy a bottle of prosecco on the Enterprise. But with Irish Rail, you get met by the Gardai at Heuston for having a drink on the train.

Catriona O'Brien Irish Companion @cutecatriona.bsky.social · 12/03/2026
Someone was drinking on the train - an announcement was made, the people consuming alcohol. The Gardai will be waiting for them at the next train station. Ridiculous carry on. Criminalising and arresting people for drinking alcohol on the train. I actually can't.
