Life expectancy in 1949 was around 36, by 1972 it was around 61. Currently, it is 78. China’s GDP grew from 67.9 billion yuan in 1952 to 364.5 billion yuan in 1978. In 2025, China’s GDP reached 140.2 trillion yuan. Since 1978, China’s GDP has grown at an average rate of more than 9% a year.

This is a good article but it really should've focused more on landlords squeezing every penny from people. This man earns £34k a year and needs to earn more just to rent a shared room. Something needs to change and quickly. We can't end homelessness without dealing with landlords.

The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.
