I’m so angry I wrote an article: In Germany, fascist majorities are a real possibility again, but the centrist merger of a revived Red Scare with open racism shows that mainstream media & politics are unable or unwilling to comprehend the seriousness of the crisis tribunemag.co.uk/2026/09/germ...

More than any higher ed development in recent memory, institutional subsidies for AI at R1 universities prove that austerity is a choice. It is not “too expensive” to invest in a humanities research infrastructure; rather, it is a choice that R1 universities make not to & subsidize AI instead.

This is APPALLING. The Trump administration is detaining multiple random Somali immigrants with no criminal record at Guantanamo Bay, seemingly because the White House ordered ICE specifically to detain Somalis at Gitmo as part of its effort to punish an ethnic group Trump has attacked.
According to Mohamed, guards at Guantanamo have said they are being held there because that's what officials in Washington, DC, want. "There's no other nation, only Somali people in Guantanamo Bay, in the prison," he told me. "And when we ask them why we are here, they tell us... Washington...ordered to keep Somali people in the Guantanamo Bay."

I don't know if I trust you if you read all these musicians pulling out of Ed Sheeran's tour first and foremost as an act of "solidarity with Macklemore" or even "opposing censorship of artists" instead of profound solidarity w/the people of Palestine. All the statements seem quite clear about this

Here's the last paragraph of the coda, which draws on work by @jordanscarroll.bsky.social and @mattseybold.bsky.social to argue that contemporary "AI" executives use the methods for foreclosing the future forged in eighteenth-century fictions of white masculine power
By building AI systems that function through consuming existing bodies
of text, these systems’ developers also position the future their mechanisms promise to realize as something that has already been written. In his analysis of contemporary right-wing imaginaries, Carroll points out how alt-right activists who cling to white masculinity as the primary site of human possibility “say they want tomorrow to reveal that they have infinite potential to be anything and everything,” but “really want a future that merely confirms who they are as fixed and inevitable.” AI instrumentalizes this deterministic vision by mining past texts to make
a future that is restricted within those texts’ bounds, thereby attempting to turn “what may be” into a recursive reiteration of what was and what is. Rather than AI’s speculative possibilities being endless, then, they are trained on the endless reproduction of systems like white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, and ableism. And, as a story already written, AI’s futures are presented to us as proleptically realized: the new, old world is already here, and we need to catch up. Returning to the historical texts in which (and from which) these forms of possibility are made, however, can remind us that though this story is authored, it is not yet something
that “Shalt be.” There remains the potential to rewrite these eighteenth-century fictions, and so to remake the collective futures that may be.

Monteleone Teardrop
The Monteleone Teardrop is probably the wildest archtop jazz guitar I've seen. It's got what would be a double-cutaway body if the upper horn wasn't curved inwards like a F-style mandolin. There's also an extra curved point coming off the end of the body on the treble side and two oval soundholes on either side of the bridge instead of F-holes. The neck has triangular inlays, and the 3/3 headstock is bigger on the treble side, making it look like Gumby's head.
