It's in an interesting place, we know all the old main characters well, none of the players can do any mad money stuff as they're all on peanuts. The Tracey Ullman bit is probably done.. It needs something... much as I enjoy it still.

It was interesting in that as you say some issues just aren't relevant or seem less so. Being gay? Two lesbian couples, no one bats an eyelid etc. I think it was very much 'Alice's arc with random adjacent stuff' bookended by the present. Interesting to see what happens next.

Bugger, this happened with ours and I did get it working again after a bit of faff, but it was a year and a half ago and I can't quite remember what I did, something with pairing and probably removing it via the app then re adding it as a new device. Hive is really good when the system does work.

Nice thing today : at least one of the local coal-tax posts has been repainted. Reminds me I still want to do a walk round London to see them all (or those that are left at least).
A freshly painted coal-tax post, a white bollard with the City of London shield - a red cross on a white background with a smaller red sword in the top left - and a small plaque with black text "ACT 24 & 25 VICT CAP 42"

Cool plant I didn't recognise growing in the verge of a local path. Put the photos into Pl@ntnet: apparently it's a butternut squash. I guess the result of a fox raiding a food waste bin that didn't involve chucking someone else's shit all over our front garden. Up with this sort of thing.

I love cats. Happy to throw up wherever they want/need to but will stand next to the litter tray waiting for anybody who can see them to go away before using it - and ours is hidden under the stairs so if he got in the tray he'd be out of sight anyway.

No not just you. I find turning thoughts into text (in this context) exhausting. Just fucking call me. And people who chuck "How are you?" into an email or WhatsApp are, much as I love them, annoying as all hell. You spent 3 seconds and now I 'have to' think about it and write an essay.

I remember both when a budget tax rise meant we started selling Holsten Pils at over £1 and the funny day when a very old customer said he remembered when a pint was 4p (not that he was complaining, wages being entirely different back then).

As I've said elsewhere I'd like interviewers to ask her, "But where are you actually from?" every time she trots out this idea that she's not English.

Even with only getting 5 hours sleep last night I was hoping for a productive day. Apparently I have telegraphed this hope to Catface who has insisted that the only place he can sleep is on whatever the fuck I'm working on. Occasionally he gets up, walks on the keyboard then settles back on the work

Every AI/HCI paper I review now just sounds like this.
Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.

It's possible. I can hear just fine but struggle with sound mixing on broadcasts so often turn the subs on. They're a real mess. Putting on subs doesn't mean I can hear and understand the other language in a bilingual film (which natively has subs) + subs and dubs should use the same words/meanings.

It's brilliant, one of Nolan's best and it's the characters doing the sleight of hand rather than the director. Also pairs very well with The Illusionist which I think gets a bit overlooked.
