Oh yeah, I would looove a guillotine, but except for buying one ($$$) or driving my projects an hour into the city to trust and pay someone ELSE to trim it at a copy center (absolutely not, lol), I needed a home solution. A plus is, while a bit more labor intensive, the results can be even smoother!

I should add I also cut along a taller straight edge I can rest the chisel against rather than a ruler, but it's not too hard to find a thick-ish board for that

Yes, highly recommend! Plus, you can get longer ones that trim far thicker book blocks without the handle starting to get in the way, which is super nice!

Popping in to say that using a single bevel blade (I use a cheap chisel) makes trimming by hand INFINITELY easier without getting wonkyier as you go, which is generally due to that tiny bit of bevel against the book block. Made a huge difference for me!
