And also, I love this list because I *LOVE* a short story collection. Love them. You get a full spectrum of the author's tastes, and a good short story is so hard to beat as a reading experience. Every horror fan got their start being traumatized by that one story, whichever that one might be.

This bit from the NYT Vance story describes basically all of ultra-right-wing chud classics and medievalism: it *feels* ancient or medieval - or what they think that should be - despite actually being very modern, because it fits their neo-fascist ideology.
