This is my logline template. I think I got it from some screenwriting book. It’s a good reminder that a logline is more than just a description of the world; it’s a call to action and the foundation of a character arc. Nail your logline and you’ve got enough conflict to carry your story. 🧵4

Sometimes you write a first draft and uncover some fundamental story problem (or problems) that make the story inherently unsatisfying. When these problems don’t have simple solves, it might require a PAGE 1 REWRITE, where you basically toss out the draft and start over. Page 1 rewrites suck! So… 🧵2

I’ve been working on a new pilot and decided it was time to get some feedback. I sent it to 2 non-writers and 2 writers. Why 4 people? Because if one person bumps on something, it might just be their opinion, but if multiple people bump on the same thing, there’s likely an issue I need to fix. 🧵3

They say writing is rewriting. What do they mean? Very few people nail a first draft. Even if you’ve spent lots of time breaking and outlining it. Why? Because invariably you find things as you write. Problems? Yes. But also character quirks, plants and payoffs, jokes, and sometimes even theme. 🧵2

There’s no one right way to write a 1st draft. Some folks do meticulous outlines first, others wing it. Some write “slop drafts,” others agonize over each word. You do you. But if you want to give yourself a chance to write something great, you have to write SOMETHING. Finish a draft then assess. 🧵3

If you’re more comfortable screenwriting then a first draft as a screenplay to find the story would probably help before embarking on the book. The story will probably change as you draft the book. So when you go to adapt that to a screenplay you may have to toss the original draft is all.

Does Creating a Timeline of Events Make Sense When Writing Fantasy?
Fantasy stories often seem boundless. Entire worlds are created from nothing—new kingdoms, magical systems, ancient histories, and epic conflicts. Because of this scope, many writers eventually ask an important question: Should I create a timeline of events for my fantasy world? The quick answer is yes—creating a timeline can greatly enhance the structure, consistency, and realism of your story.
