Someone asked how I keep track of which character knows what at any given point in the story. Badly, some days. I built a spreadsheet after the third continuity mistake. What's the worst continuity error you've ever caught, yours or someone else's? #SFF #AmWriting

The institutions that scare me most in fiction never think of themselves as villains. They think they're the last thing standing between order and the dark. What's an institution in a book that convinced you it was right, right up until the moment it wasn't? #SFF #WritingCommunity

A prophecy only earns its weight if the person it's about would give anything to be wrong. What's a prophecy in fiction that actually worked because of that? For me it was Rand in Wheel of Time. #SFF #WritingCommunity

Indie spotlight: Revenge Runs Red by Damien Waugh is out today. Grimdark debut about an exiled general repaid for his service in slaughter. Self-published, genuinely worth your money if this lane is yours. Anyone already grabbed it? #SFF #BookTwitter

Villain dialogue is either the fastest thing I write or the slowest, depending on the day. The ones who genuinely believe they're right take real work to get honest. The ones who already know they're wrong are almost too easy. Which do you enjoy more as a reader? #SFF #AmWriting

[ARCHIVIST RECORD] Every checkpoint guard in Skyside must log a reason for delay. Reading a year of those reasons teaches you more about a city's fears than any official history does. What's the most obviously fake excuse you've ever heard someone use for being late? #TheParasiteWars #SFF

My floating city originally rose 1,100 feet every morning. Then I jumped out of a plane at 10,500 feet. Turns out I'd been thinking about height as a number. At 10,500 feet, it becomes an environment. I rewrote Vehl's Reach when I got back on the ground. #SFF #AmWriting

A few years ago I did the CN Tower EdgeWalk. 1,168 feet up. Outside the building. No railing. Just a harness and Toronto very, very far below. My first draft had Vehl's Reach rising 1,100 feet every morning. That number wasn't random. It also didn't survive. #SFF #AmWriting

I've lived on a 30th floor. Nothing dramatic by skyscraper standards, but enough to notice your relationship to weather, distance, and other people changes completely once you're not on the ground. Most people never get that data point in daily life.

Every time I fly, I try to get a window seat facing the sunrise. A few miles up, weather becomes geography. Clouds become terrain. Cities become patterns. That change in perspective is part of why my next book takes place in a city that refuses to stay on the ground. #SFF #AmWriting

The ARC readers getting The Infection Protocol aren't getting a polished little hero story. Rhea makes bad calls. Kael has things he won't tell you. Ishren Kaal isn't waiting around to explain himself. That's rather the point. #TheParasiteWars #SFF #ARCReader
