Reform UK has now lost 173 councillors: 60 resigned, 47 went Independent, 30 defected, 24 were kicked out, 5 lost their seats, 5 are suspended and 2 were disqualified. Alan Feeney and Chris Whelan take Birmingham to three departures, all of them crossing to the Independents.

This isnt a dig at Burnham but I'm sick of people pretending Starmer has done and said nothing about the EU27 and hurrah for Andy. Both Starmer and Reeves have talked about the damage done by Brexit. Starmer has worked his socks off repairing our relationship, it's disrespectful to him and others.

Keir Starmer called out Russian influence in 2020. Johnson, PM at the time, stated: “Everybody understands these criticisms are motivated by a desire to undermine the referendum on the European Union that took place in 2016, the result of which he simply cannot bring himself to accept".

There's a lot I don't like about Burnham but I've never doubted he has the best interests of us all at heart and he isn't a liar. Farage has some nerve calling Burnham a liar.

I'm glad to see Burnham continuing the work done by Starmer in repaired and rebuilding our relationship with the EU. But too often ignored by many is Starmer had to start from the bottom after 14 years in opposition, Burnham is starting 2 years into a Labour government, it gives him much more space.

Whilst it's good to hear Burnham acknowledging what most of us already knew about Russian interference in Brexit, it doesn't change anything. We can't simply reverse Brexit, anyone suggesting we can is deluding themselves. Brexiters don't give a toss about this and the majority will simply shrug.

Simply read this summary on what is driving the increased prevalence of mental health distress from the long awaiting final independent report into teenage mental health. Now compare it to the public discussion on mental health which basically comes down to social media and over-diagnosis.
The rise in mental distress among children and young people has unfolded alongside profound changes in the conditions of childhood. No single cause explains it. Family life, education, communities, digital environments and economic security all influence whether children feel safe and connected, have time to recover, can participate in everyday life and can look to the future with confidence.

Among the possible drivers, digital environments and educational pressures show the closest correspondence with the timing and pattern of rising distress. Neither is likely to be the principal cause. The evidence indicates that these environments have become more significant contributors than for previous generations, interacting with family circumstances, economic insecurity and existing vulnerability rather than operating alone. Continuous comparison and visible evaluation, disrupted sleep, reduced opportunities for belonging and recovery, and growing uncertainty may reinforce one another.

The strongest protective factors for mental health are supportive parenting relationships, positive educational experiences, and community participation and belonging. The pandemic, economic insecurity, pressures on families and the decline of community infrastructure do not explain the trend on their own, but they have intensified pressures and weakened sources of protection. These effects are not evenly distributed. Children experiencing poverty, discrimination, SEND, care experience or family stress often bear the greatest burden.

Prevention cannot rest solely on helping children cope with environments that place growing demands on them. It also requires action to improve those environments: more inclusive schools; protected time for rest, play and belonging; stronger community infrastructure; reduced poverty and insecurity; practical support for parents and carers; and enforceable duties on digital platforms to protect children while preserving the connection and support they can pro…

Re/joining the EU will be exceptionally difficult for the UK, and sugar coating this or thinking Germany can fix it all will be to repeat the errors made in 2016 and ever since. Achievable with great effort. But not by repeating anything from the last ten years.

You could argue Tesco has already paid tax so their employees shouldn't pay tax on their wages. It's just as fatuous an argument as abolishing IHT, inherited wealth is unearned income, tax is always payable on unearned income.

There's a definite case to change or ditch the triple lock but the media who are busy promoting this and who constantly bang on about wealthy pensioners getting bus passes, WFP etc will immediately turn on Burnham if he does anything. Just like they did to Starmer over the changes to WFP.
