My wife got a "You interacted with a phishing test email and have been assigned additional training. Click HERE to access your training portal." That was sneaky.

a screenshot of an email with the subject Phishing Test Exempt from noreply.at.it-support.care:

Dear Erin:

We typically require mandatory phishing tests on a regular basis, but as you've demonstrated considerable awareness on the subject, we've been allowed to offer you an exemption from further tests. Please click here and validate your Aviv to be removed from the phishing tests lists.

A lot of people are talking about federally ran government websites with anti-democrat propaganda blurbs, violating the Hatch Act. I've scraped 1,336 sites and came back with 23 that have this verbiage, along with a notable site that has a notice of anti-DEI court orders.

If you're interviewing an applicant for a Linux heavy role and they just told you the crontab scheduling order by memory, just stop the interview and offer them the job.

I used one of these power banks at Defcon and it did surprisingly well. Only 1 USB C, but it will super fast charge a phone, and it kept my laptop going a bit longer. At $15 each, this is seriously a good deal. meh.com

A sticker on a black surface featuring a sinister version of Clippy, the old Microsoft Office assistant. Clippy has glowing red eyes and dark outlines with red glitch-like marks. Below the character is a speech bubble that reads: “It looks like you’re exfiltrating data, would you like help?”

I'm bringing back an old project... It'll take animated GIFs, ASCIIfy them, and I can control the speed in real-time. After I get this polished up, I'm going to figure out how to turn the animations into a telnet server (again). Also, maybe music sync?

It's pretty cool to see how people are fixing the badges this year. A lot of people are complaining, but I think a badge that breaks could be more of a feature than a bug, forcing people to solve a problem and participate. #defcon33 #defcon

If there's one thing I've learned about covering cybersecurity over the past decade or so, is that the cybersecurity community (the fixers and breakers) and the cybersecurity industry (profits above all else) are two very, very different things.

If we start seeing huge corporations win labor cases with uncanny precision, we can likely attribute this to AI being trained on data that was exfiltrated from the NLRB. The more data DOGE has, the more the current administration can quickly unravel our democracy. We'll just have to wait and see.

2010. These mini PCs were what we called "transfer servers". We shipped these RAIDed devices to customers in Pelican cases so that they could dump data on to them and send them back to be loaded into servers. This was actually quicker than transferring data over the internet.

2009, a couple years after moving out of my parent's house. I was stealing internet from a nearby apartment complex (wide open, no password). I was nice, though, and updated the firmware on the random person's router on a regular basis. Those are the iconic red Netflix sleeves in front of the TV.
