There's been fascists terrorising Salford for 3 weeks now, and neither Labour or the police are doing a fucking thing to stop it.

Wouldn’t a better way be to *increase* member involvement by introducing a measure whereby proposals made at Conference must be ratified by the wider membership before they can become policy? There’s nothing democratic about the few able to attend Conference being able to set policy for all of us.

Yes, this is what I would like to see. The problem is not that too many members participate but quite the opposite. 99.02% of members did *not* vote on the ZiR motion. It's even closer to 100% non-engagement from members on many other motions.

I would have had no problem with a motion saying that "enacting or supporting a genocide is the most extreme racism there is". But the words of the actual motion are confusing, open to interpretation and not completely synonymous with that, unfortunately. I agree with Peter Tatchell's take.

Well done, Sonia and Lambeth Greens. Feel like your brilliant campaign didn't get enough attention due to Holborn and St P but was rooting for you. Next time for the win!

Perhaps inevitably this meant he was unable to focus attention on the conference and speak out clearly on the motion to head off the damage. There is a chance to do so now after some rest and recovery.

We need to do all this without tearing ourselves apart! I hope we can. I am sorry Zack Polanski is facing this difficult time. I had hoped to see him as MP for Holborn and St P and this is a very gutting result. He worked tirelessly on the ground.

We also need to find a way to ensure that members' voices are heard without it being possible for binding motions to be adopted with under 0.5% of member votes.

We will never know how much of this was due to the damaging Zionism is Racism motion passing only days before the election and the predictable media onslaught that followed, drowning out all other Green messages and policy commitments. Imo, this motion must be revisited and changed.

Congratulations, Segal Abdi-Wali. Good victory speech and campaign. I enjoyed canvassing for the Greens so much and met some great people. Lots of soul searching to be done following this low turn out & disappointing loss for us. I hope we will be able to learn from mistakes, heal and move forward.

I love your substack on this and agree with it 100%. It reflects many of my feelings on the passing of the motion. Thank you for sharing. I also like the recent statement from @traffordgreenparty.bsky.social which gives me hope that there can be a way through this for the party.

Wanted: children to rear harvest mice at home for wild release in Devon
Teenagers Eva Wishart and Emily Smith launch project to breed and release 250 of the tiny animals by September Children in Devon are being invited to become “citizen captive breeders”, rearing harvest mice at home for release into the wild to help revive endangered nature. Wild Pets, a new conservation project launched by two 14-year-old friends, is seeking 20 Devon-based children to rear hundreds of mice after the duo’s own successful restoration efforts. I like the membership having a voice but I wonder whether there should be a higher participation threshold before a motion becomes binding. Less than 1% of Green Party members voted either way on this motion. It has become policy on the decision of less than 0.5% of party members.

Please, if you have a vote on Thursday, vote for Zack. Whatever progress ‘Labour’ has shown, ditching Starmer included, has happened not because people have suddenly found their inner conscience , but because of pressure from the left: from the Greens, PC, SNP: all of us. Don’t give up now.

Just want to point out if people had been beaten up at the Green or SNP party conference and their leader had cheered it on. It wouldn't just have been on TV, it would have been on TV non-stop until the election. But for Reform, it barely got mentioned.
