Here's the cumulative volume of curtailment and turn-up actions over the past week… We had a particularly heavy period of transmission constraint throughout September, both in terms of energy volume as well as cost. Why? ⬇️

It is *fucking incredible* that we still have people treating this as a controversial matter, three years into the most proudly declared and forensically recorded racial genocide of the last fifty years. To treat it as some terrifying scandal is insane, utterly detached from reality.

If you want to argue that Zionism isn't this specific thing, fine. But don't act like it's beyond the pale to believe it is.

My intuition is that if you scrap the triple lock to create a National Care Service, and that means you don't have to sell your house for care, the poorest will lose, and the middle will gain.

There were almost no food banks when I was a kid, I don’t remember hearing the term until the 2010s and the Big Society. Cuts are just cuts, they have no moral value and anyone telling you “It’s unfair that Group (x) gets too much” is hoping they can play on your spite until nobody gets anything.

Times and FT guys I’ve listened to have been admirably blunt that it means “cheerio to the triple lock, hello sales pitch for a general election that’s three years away and might amount to either radical change of the British democratic system, or basically nothing”.

Assurances will have been made offscreen - they always are - so I’d guess the upshot here is that the triple lock on pensions is a goner; we will get some faff-arsed, wholly inadequate will-this-do version of a personal care system, and we will get perfunctory efforts to rejoin lesser EU programmes.

(1)Andy Burnham, Ed Miliband et al are talking like the Soft Left have won control of the Labour Party, but acting like Team Starmer's plan still largely holds, so they are vocally left wing, but are only acting through good-but-limited tweaks , with key Labour Right people in charge...

Rural busybodies strike again www.bbc.com/news/article...
What sparked the arrests?

A resident who called 999 to report the three white vans in Whelford village said it was "pure luck" that she spotted the vehicles.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she arrived home to find the driveway and road blocked and saw a "large group of hooded and masked men".

"When they saw me they ran ahead of me - some into the field and some towards the neighbouring village of Kempsford. I then realised that something highly unusual was taking place," she added.

The woman told the programme she called the Ministry of Defence police at RAF Fairford but received no answer. She then rang 999 at 01:36 BST and said "within 10 minutes the village was full of armed police".

"I believe that my 999 call foiled whatever plans they had."

Not even. The two people that received suspended sentences this week were also charged w. having an article with intent to destroy or damage property. Capt. Thugwash had a knife, for which he doesn't appear to have been charged, while and Noah and Daniel each had a paint filled fire extinguisher.

[frowning, nodding, taking notes, like an analyst listening to their patient]
“We’re really serious about this because you’re failing to recognise that you’ve got to have the backs of your servicemen and women,” added Mr Butler, who was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 2002.
“Has trust been broken? I don’t think there is far to go before it is. Remember, trust goes both ways and if you want to maintain the world’s premiere special forces organisation, you’ve got to look after it.”
Mr Butler was critical of the use of human rights law to prosecute soldiers operating in combat environments.
He said that soldiers were pursued “through the prism of human rights laws, as opposed to the law of armed conflict and the rules of engagement from the Geneva Convention”, describing this as “totally inappropriate” for armed conflict.Grenfell described how she was told that soldiers dropped detainees in Afghanistan from forklift trucks “for fun”. She said she asked someone what they did in their spare time in the country and they said they got forklift trucks and “drove really fast then slammed on the brakes so they fell from a height”. She said: “I thought, ‘I can’t believe you are saying that.’”

SAS called me Taliban apologist, officer tells Afghanistan inquiry

She explained how in one case her boss disappeared to a different job without notice and another relatively new SAS soldier told her it was because he had been accused of “war crimes”. The soldier told her he had been with him when he carried them out, she claimed.
“These things were told casually. He [the soldier] wasn’t going to question him, he was thrilled to be in the SAS. He was smiling like everyone was doing it,” she said. She described some of the SAS as “feral” and claimed that one member of personnel described the atmosphere as akin to Lord of the Flies.

The first rule of military ethics is have fun :)
In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any "collateral damage" during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.

Funny coincidence: this estimate of China's cleantech avoided emissions is about the same as the potential *added* emissions if all planned data centre gas plants go ahead ketanjoshi.co/2026/09/16/n...
Almost a third of the avoided emissions identified by the analysis came from solar exports to South Asia, where Pakistan is in the ‌midst of a boom that has given it one of the highest shares of solar power generation in the world.

"Current growth of solar and EVs, particularly in emerging countries, was not on anyone's radar five years ago before China's cleantech manufacturing boom," said Myllyvirta.
"Just as the manufacturing boom led to increased supply and falling prices, the world experienced two fossil fuel price shocks in the past five years, giving adoptia chart showing potential gas emissions
