All run out of one shop in Leyton, phones stolen on the streets of London because they could sell for as much as £5,000 in China (apparently because they are not locked behind the Great Firewall?)

Reminds me of a poll I saw where 90% of Floridians say they agree climate change is happening, but that less than half of all respondents said they would be willing to pay $10 a month to strengthen Florida’s infrastructure to bad weather www.fau.edu/newsdesk/art...

90% of Floridians Believe Climate Change is Happening
The latest FAU survey found that 90% of Floridians believe that climate change is happening and that belief in human-caused climate change has surged among Independents and slipped among Republicans.

The penalty amounts to about 1 per cent of what analysts expect to be the bank’s net income this year. This UBS example is not unusual, as I found in my story which I put together with the help of data from @goodjobsfirst.org supplied by @philmattera.bsky.social

Except how severe is a $125mn fine for a bank that made nearly $8bn in profit last year? “It’s a rounding error, isn’t it?” Tom Keatinge told me, a former JPMorgan banker and founder of the Centre for Finance and Security of the Royal United Services Institute, a think-tank.

I dived into anti-money laundering failures for The Banker... When FinCen fined UBS $125mn last week for “wilfully” and “egregiously” violating US anti-money-laundering rules, it framed the penalty as a severe warning to repeat offenders. www.thebanker.com/content/98e8...

Proud to be in @theregister.com thanks to @bvig.bsky.social's eagle eyes on Hacker News writing about this little tool I built which lets you export your data from ChatGPT The ReadMe page of Github can be quite a good place to publish journalism, it turns out www.theregister.com/ai-and-ml/20...

OpenAI won't let some customers export their chats, but this tool will
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise users lack the standard chat export option, so third-party utilities like scrapemychats fill the gap

UK and India trade deal obviously a massive deal for the Scotch industry, and a quite nice perk for luxury car makers in the UK like JLR, Rolls-Royce and Bentley But overall it's expected to have a teeny tiny impact on GDP by 2040: a £4.8 billion increase in GDP, or 0.1% www.gov.uk/government/p...

I’ve done a bit on this in my book. It’s the natural outgrowth of thinking you’re a genius, and that is completely heritable. In the 1970s, someone set up a “Nobel sperm bank”. The only Nobel winner we know that donated was William Shockley, who spent his later life banging on about race and IQ.
