Jimmy Carter sold his peanut farm to avoid the appearance of bias or interest. Our political culture is in a lot of trouble that Republicans aren’t safer calling this out than ignoring or defending it.

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

The first two categories are expressly unconstitutional. Coker v. Georgia (1977) and Kennedy v. Louisiana (2008) forbid the death penalty for any non-homicide offense under the 8th Amendment Of course, SCOTUS gonna SCOTUS…

If you’ve read about TN this week, please take a moment with this piece if you didn’t read it when we published it: It’s an investigation into the execution team Alabama has put together. It’s officers with a history of violence who choose each other. Eye-opening to what happens in executions.

In Alabama, Prison Guards Accused of Violence and Misconduct Carry Out Secretive Executions - Bolts
As Alabama keeps details around the death penalty hidden, an investigation into its execution team raises questions about how incarcerated people are treated in their final moments.

How’s this for morally and philosophically consistent: Nobody, including and especially no government, should get to decide what happens inside a person’s body - even if that means choosing to end a viable pregnancy.

How much does it cost to get more information about a cop who punched someone in the face? If you guessed anything lower than $2.5 million, you’d be wrong — at least according to the city of Eugene, Oregon. buff.ly/AlxYU8S

The fact that these bros have realized, only now, that they probably need to do something to keep their tech from turning into a self-deploying weapon of mass destruction, should serve as an important reminder: The humanities are important. These people should have read some Ovid at 20.

We have to engage with the realities of our criminal legal system, not just the noble fictions. Because systems work as they are made to do.

And this system is totally incompetent to speak to, let alone to treat, that pain. Our system is designed to protect rights and liberty and sometimes dignity. And treating pain as currency can conflict with that. But that is no excuse for illiteracy with respect to pain. Numbness to it.

Real Original CP3 @cp3.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
And almost every complaining witness is a nexus of pain. Many witnesses, too. I wonder why rates of domestic violence are so high among cops and substance abuse so high among lawyers.

In our work, our clients are almost always in tremendous pain. They fear future pain - shame, failure, imprisonment, deprivation, violence, uncertainty. If they did what they are accused of, they likely feel great pain about what they did. And if they didn’t do it? Woof…

Lawyering is a little like EOD. If you think you’re onto something big, you have to dig it out very slowly and very carefully and you probably need an expert’s help to understand it. And there’s usually a good reason it didn’t explode on impact.

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

AI might do horrible damage to the world. If it does, the most likely mechanism is that the economic bubble(s) surrounding the tech will burst, erasing billions or trillions in artificial assets after a decade of inflating hardware costs and wasted software development cycles.

I’ve been doing a thorough review of Tupac’s work this week, having missed most of his production when I was a kid. His bangers-per-track rate over the four albums published before his death is maybe unbeatable. Every groove is sick. Every line is delivered like a punch in a round-long combo.

I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling. They removed the report from the Wayback Machine and now I got a DMCA strike on my Google Drive for having it. It was deleted and removed from my account.
A screenshot of an email viewed in dark mode with the subject line "Google DMCA Violation." The email from Google informs the recipient that they have received a notification under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that some of their materials allegedly infringe on copyrights. It explains the removal process, mentions that notice details will be posted on Lumen, warns against repeated violations, and lists one affected Google Drive URL at the bottomA nearly identical mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. It shows a search for the same Amnesty International UK resources URL, resulting in the same message: "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."A mobile browser screenshot of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine.
