Wholly undeserving of it's poor box office receipts, it's worth trying to catch this in a cinema. It's initial tone is quite OTT, but the real film subtly creeps in until a real 'Wait, what?' moment, and from there it's brilliant, well observed and funny.

Yeah. Maybe the transfer calculation isn't taking the TZ changes into account? If it was working on a GMT arrival time, that would make it 5hrs.

Same station, but the times will be coming from two different back end systems. At a guess, the Eurostar arrival time is same TZ as the departure time.

Hate it when that happens, though if they’ve done a good job of it, fair enough? I think it’s worse if it’s half-arsed orissing a crucial feature you’d thought of, as you could still do it, but be accused of plagiarism!

How do computers calculate complicated trig functions such as tangent? I took a look at Intel's 8087 floating-point chip under the microscope to find out. The chip combines two techniques to evaluate the tan function quickly and accurately: polynomials and an algorithm called CORDIC...
A die photo of the 8087 chip under a microscope shows complex patterns from its transistors and wiring. The middle of the chip holds the microcode ROM, while the bottom half of the chip is the datapath that performs calculations. Zooming in on the datapath shows various functional blocks, which appear as rectangles with different textures. Important functional blocks are labeled: exponent ROM, constant ROM, shifter, adder, registers, and so forth.

CSS Curiosities of the Past

Our target market was quite different to IEs, so we were insulated from much of the 'works best on IE' garbage that was popular at the time, until Microsoft took an interest that is :/

HH, being designed for slow data connections, and a philosophy of responsive UX, would start rendering tables as soon as a good enough guess on row geometry could be made. You could only have half the HTML loaded, but still have a navigable page. IE - blank page and 'loading' 🙄

Andrew Langstaff @cowboycoder.com · 11/09/2026
IE was *so* bad. ISTR a couple of times, during and post-acquisition, we had to essentially break HitchHiker so it rendered the same as IE did. 🙄 Our single-pass table rendering was a particular case, IIRC, IE at the time would just render a blank page if you left out the </table>.
