An illustration of a rat in ragged cloth saying “You are worthless” extending the hand to reach a smaller rat cowering in fear. Between them a crow extends the wings to protect the smaller rat saying “Stop lying about my friend!”. The characters are drawn in full black pencil strokes, with a watercolor background of dark trees looming over the smaller rat.

The Heritage Foundation laid out how they were going to rescind Title IX, the law that prohibits sex discrimination in education, by first targeting trans people's participation in sport. Capitulating on the human rights of transgender people is catastrophically falling at the first hurdle.

my boy @mrchrisadams.net did the calcs on this - a $1m fine, for a facility that gets paid $290m a month. www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

I did some quick napkin maths calculation on this. If the guardian article mentions 300MW replacing these engines, I think that 1 million dollar fee represents about 3-5 days of fuels costs for the 45 Bergen generators.

Microsoft has a 17bn dollar, 5 year deal with Nebius for the compute.

Nebius is paying DataOne to build the actual datacentres, and provide the generators to power them.

Moreover, a 17bn dollar deal, if you divide it by 60 months, is what? 290 million dollars per month?

What good is a 1million dollar fine if you're being paid 290 milion dollars by Microsoft, per month for it, who presumably are selling the compute for *more than* 290 million dollars per month?

No wonder they were happy to be allowed to keep running it - the cost of switching off the servers for a month would have been hundreds of times the cost of the fine.
