If I were in a comic book, I'd be the walk-on mad scientist who accidentally mutates himself into a monster, leading to the obligatory fight with the hero.

Minnesota is consistently in the 10 states for happiness, GDP, and liveability. We're top 5 in education. And we're 1st in voting. I don't care what an illiterate old man from Queens thinks about a state he couldn't find on a map of Minnesota.

I saw some earlier this week on a pump in the Midway area between Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Nice to see, and got a good chuckle out of it. Still hated paying the price for gas, however!

Just a reminder that I’ve got a new book out in September, but you can actually buy an eArc now, if so inclined. Or preorder at your bookstore / retailer of choice. Is it the best book you’ll read where a dragon nearly eats the world? I dunno. But it’d be nice for me if you bought it

I felt the same need a number of years ago, and perfected my bagel making skills. Soon thereafter, I realized it wasn’t a biological need but more along the lines of a biological nudge and haven’t made them recently.

I know only a few things: I hauled about 30 boxes full of used cookbooks, including some real gems; my Mom is hosting a used cookbook sale on 4.11.26 in Cambridge MA, hosted by Curio Spice Co., 12-4pm; it benefits World Central Kitchen, which provides food for victims of [gestures]. Please come!
A big box of cookbooks I carried with my arms made brawny by years of kung-fu training. The box sits upon a wooden table, on a porch which I painted by hand.

Thanks for the info on the ARCs. It’s always nice to know when a set is complete. Those dice are just sitting around so I will drop them in the mail to you anyway. I have a Kenmore address for you from Terri Ash. Is that still correct?

As I’ve missed the moments of calm that @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social usually posts (now that he’s working on his book) I’ll toss this one out for the internet winds to carry away - a rare MN fog enveloping the bridge over the Mississippi at the University of Minnesota campus
The left half of the image is solid grey fog. The right half is a maroon and gold bridge heading into the fog.

Antarctic sheep are known worldwide for their incredibly thick and fluffy wool. That wool would be much more common if the sheep didn’t keep dying due to the harsh Antarctic conditions.

Of course, Emmer’s base is only the fraction of Minnesotans who feel the way he does. But he wants to believe that everyone feels the way he does. It’s the only way he can justify himself.

corucia @corucia44.bsky.social · 22/01/2026
At this point Emmer has to repudiate everything going on in Minneapolis as outside agitators. If he doesn’t and admits that this is being done by Minnesotans then he admits that Minnesotans don’t feel the way he does. That directly attack attacks his legitimacy and makes him appear weak to his base

What we’re being told is that a guy who is an adjudicated rapist, who was credibly accused of sexual assault by dozens of women, who paid hush money to a porn star, who cheated on all his wives, who is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein files, couldn’t possibly be a sexual predator.

Does your novel require that the person be able to distinguish any individual bird, or just one or two from the main population? If the birds are well known to the person the second is likely to be relatively more straightforward than the former.
