I wrote The Automatic Detective 18 years ago. While I certainly didn’t invent the retro sci fi genre, it floated around in Hollywood for years. Almost, but not quite happening. Pretty normal.

Whenever I read a werewolf story with “alphas” I always think that, in this story, these characters have adopted a cultural conceit based on movies. Like mobster culture copying The Godfather, which happened. So basically, most stories are werewolves copying a culture that never existed.

So often, I see posts on the internet that ask “Could Spider-Man beat the Hulk?” or “Why in this story does SHIELD act like this, but in this story, it acts like this?” The answer is always the same: It’s fiction. It’s made up. It goes in whatever the writer wants it to.
