If I were in a comic book, I'd be the walk-on mad scientist who accidentally mutates himself into a monster, leading to the obligatory fight with the hero.

Minnesota is consistently in the 10 states for happiness, GDP, and liveability. We're top 5 in education. And we're 1st in voting. I don't care what an illiterate old man from Queens thinks about a state he couldn't find on a map of Minnesota.

Just a reminder that I’ve got a new book out in September, but you can actually buy an eArc now, if so inclined. Or preorder at your bookstore / retailer of choice. Is it the best book you’ll read where a dragon nearly eats the world? I dunno. But it’d be nice for me if you bought it

I know only a few things: I hauled about 30 boxes full of used cookbooks, including some real gems; my Mom is hosting a used cookbook sale on 4.11.26 in Cambridge MA, hosted by Curio Spice Co., 12-4pm; it benefits World Central Kitchen, which provides food for victims of [gestures]. Please come!
A big box of cookbooks I carried with my arms made brawny by years of kung-fu training. The box sits upon a wooden table, on a porch which I painted by hand.

#NoKings #Springsteen Minneapolis/Saint Paul Huge turnout - all of our neighbors everywhere! A glorious day to protest for justice, truth, democracy, dignity, and peace!
A view of the outside of the Minnesota State Capitol, crowded with people holding up signs at the No Kings protest. As I’ve missed the moments of calm that @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social usually posts (now that he’s working on his book) I’ll toss this one out for the internet winds to carry away - a rare MN fog enveloping the bridge over the Mississippi at the University of Minnesota campus
The left half of the image is solid grey fog. The right half is a maroon and gold bridge heading into the fog.

* Dreamhaven Books went viral for Greg's furious "I'm 70 and I'm angry!" rant and has been donating to local causes; it's an outstanding stop for anyone interested in SF/F or comics.

Today is the walk-out in MN. Last night the temps went below -22F (so cold our sensor went off-line last night). Everyone’s participating. Gotta love Minnesotans! For general news about MN there are lots of sources. I follow Naomi Kritzer’s feed @naomikritzer.bsky.social (great SF author!)

What we’re being told is that a guy who is an adjudicated rapist, who was credibly accused of sexual assault by dozens of women, who paid hush money to a porn star, who cheated on all his wives, who is mentioned hundreds of times in the Epstein files, couldn’t possibly be a sexual predator.

I am just saying, if scouting offered a badge in Creepy Effigy Avoidance, we could prevent a lot of these problems.

Cannot say this enough: Most of the people in charge in the US right now are bottom of the barrel dipshits with very low competency, utterly deluded worldviews, no sense of community, and no moral or ethical compass.

Did you ever wonder what you would have done as a citizen in historical times of incredible cruelty: slavery, the holocaust, etc.? You don't have to wonder anymore! You're doing it!

It is officially time for the Democratic Party to stop wasting money on their out of touch consultant class, and start paying for insights from Bluesky posters named "<--- kill me" and "Kicked In The Farm Parts"

It should not be understated how much clever shit like this actually annihilates morale at places like ICE/CBP. Getting made fun of like this on national television while people laugh at you is.. well, you may call it victory wine, but it ain't.

One of the cool things about having the @scalzifamily.foundation is that it makes it easy to do local "improvement of life" stuff like this. We also paid off school lunch debt in town, donate to local libraries and museums and generally try to make where we live a little bit nicer all around.

Magic: The Gathering has Tyvar and Tibalt, and I keep wondering with each new October book if this will be the one in which Seanan introduces a Tivar to go with Tybalt…. @seananmcguire.bsky.social

Even though I knew what was coming from Sleep No More, The Innocent Sleep was a great read - juxtaposing Tybalt’s view with October’s in 2 books added amazing depth/context w/o yanking the reader’s attention to-and-fro repeatedly as it would have been in a single book @seananmcguire.bsky.social
