Every so often I get to think of something that is not awful. I interviewed Henry freaking Rollins about his quest with Ian MacKaye and a few other schemers to revive Vengeance Records, The Cramps’ record label: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

It’s Sidney Lumet’s birthday. Here’s Ned Beatty & Peter Finch in the chilling ‘The world is a corporation’ scene from Lumet & Chayefsky’s Network. Lumet has Beatty go from barnstorming to super subtle in the blink of an eye. It’s a dazzling & terrifyingly prescient speech. youtu.be/yuBe93FMiJc?...

Koho Shoda (Japan, 1871–1946) : Moonlit Sea, 1930 woodblock print 28.3 × 22 cm | 9-1/2 x 6-7/8 in Private Collection Further descriptions in the alt text 👇
Beautiful view of a boat in dark silhouette making its way across the ocean at night, moonlight shimmering on the surface of the water. A few grasses and reeds frame the scene in the foreground, adding a sense of depth. A full moon glows in the night sky above, surrounded by softly shaded blue gray clouds. An exquisitely rendered shin-hanga design with lovely effects of light and fine bokashi shading.

The Night Scenes Series -
Lovely design from a series of 21 night scenes first published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya in the 1910s. Subjects are evening and night views, primarily printed in shades of blue, many with glowing moons or twinkling lights and figures in silhouette. The series was quite popular with editions printed up through the 1930s and even later. Beautifully colored and printed, these classic shin-hanga designs are a favorite with collectors.

It’s been five years since Alex Jones lost InfoWars to the Sandy Hook families. As the verdict came down, he asked: “Do these people actually believe they’re getting any money?” He hasn't paid them a penny. Well, The Onion is going pay them anyway. The new InfoWars begins July 2nd at 8 p.m. ET.

The Onion says it won’t wait for the courts, will launch Infowars to pay Sandy Hook families
The Onion’s staff is tired of waiting for the courts to settle its pending takeover of Alex Jones’ brand, so the new Infowars will launch next month.

Listen to your children read. Read to your children. Read alongside your children. Take them to libraries. Talk about what reading means to you & what it can unlock in them. Tell them it doesn’t matter if it’s comics, magazines or books as long as they’re engaged with the written word.

Vote Reform for mass unemployment. If Farage and Tice win, they'll destroy a million jobs, while offering nothing in return. Spread the word: for the sake of their billionaire funders, they will throw you out of work. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Wendell Berry
ALWAYS in the distance
the sound of cars is passing
on the road, that simplest form
going only two ways,
both ways away. And I
have been there in that going.
But now I rest and am
apart, a part of the form
of the woods always arriving
from all directions home,
this cell of wild sound,
the hush of the trees, singers
hidden among the leaves—
a form whose history is old,
needful, unknown, and bright
as the history of the stars
that tremble in the sky at night
like leaves of a great tree.

Wendell Berry
Sabbath Poem V, 1988.

The Guardian's 100 Greatest Novels List, is, with a few exceptions, as safe as you could get. It's the literary equivalent of those stupid album lists that always have either Revolver and/or OK bastard Computer as the greatest ever. Orthodoxy wins again.
