Beyond the horrifying reality that a hospital is trying to "clear the pentobarbital from [Christa Pike's] system" currently, the litigation over Tennessee's actions this week will shine a very clear light on the many, many reasons why governments should not be trusted with killing their citizens.

Ironically, my original interview with the journalist I spoke with was primarily about how "inconsistencies" can come from gender bias in investigatory processes and then be blamed on survivors. It was the inspiration for this thread--but none of these points made it into any USA Today article:

In terms of consequences, the changes would have two effects. First, they would eliminate existing demographic data that we use for things like estimating racial inequality. That is by design, of course. Second, it would make the Census less accurate by discouraging non-citizens from participating.

The Trump administration claims the constitution is "colorblind" so there is no reason to ask about race. But thats not true! There are multiple places the constitution focuses on race that help to explain why it became a part of every set of Census questions donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-2030-c...
The first was the language in the Constitution to separate “free persons” from “other persons,” the euphemism used in Article 1 for enslaved persons. The first census statute translated “free persons” to “whites” and “other free persons” for the actual census form, and by the 1820 census Congress had added age and sex categories to distinguish the “free colored” population and the enslaved population (presumed to be “colored”).

The second was the mandate to exclude “Indians not taxed” from the “actual enumeration,” such that American population history has had to reconstruct the demography of the indigenous population from non census sources from 1790 to 1890, when the Census Office did begin to conduct censuses of the “Indian population.”

Pulte is the most shameless, but the overall picture is bad. We now have Inspector Generals who are party members, or previously worked for the people they are supposed to be investigating. Career IG officials know they will be fired for doing their job. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/governing-...
After he fired the Veteran’s Administration Inspector General, Trump replaced him with another of his appointees, Cheryl Mason, who was a senior adviser to the Secretary of VA she was not tasked with overseeing. The new IG soon stopped issuing alerts about problems in VA after her former boss complained they were distracting, and no longer allows staff to brief Congressional committees on forthcoming reports, weakening the ability of Congress to exert oversight. A staffer in her office said: “If you believe in independent oversight, that’s not what we were doing…It’s got all the agents worried about doing anything that puts us on anyone’s radar.” Staff who raise concerns with Mason say they are likely to be labeled “a resister, and they are totally blackballed.”

Renee Good's family filed two lawsuits today. The first, against, USG, is a standard wrongful death. The second is a Klan Act lawsuit against Jonathan Ross, AND STEPHEN MILLER and Greg Bovino. It names Nick Shirley and Christopher Rufo as non-party co-conspirators for their racist propaganda.
44. At all relevant times, Defendants Ross, Miller, Noem, Lyons, Homan,
Bovino, and the John Doe Federal Agents acted under color of federal law and within the
scope of a joint enterprise with the private actors described below. Defendant
Lewandowski acted in part under color of federal law and in part, as alleged below, as a
private person, his federal status having been limited to a temporary part-time designation
that his conduct exceeded. Shirley, Rufo, and Ben Bergquam, and the other non-party
private actors described below, agreed to and in fact participated in the conspiracy alleged
here: each acted in concert with, and with the knowledge and encouragement of, federal
officials.
