Ukrainian strikes disrupt 78% of Yandex Cloud network, report says
Ukraine disabled 78% of the Yandex Cloud network in just three days, according to OSINTtechnical. The outage followed Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian data centers, leading to a massive disruption in Yandex's cloud infrastructure. OSINTtechnical reported that 78% of Yandex Cloud’s network became unreachable from outside the company after these attacks over the past four days. The publication cited internet monitoring data from IODA. OSINTtechnical described the incident as a severe blow to the digital ecosystem.
Yandex Cloud provides businesses with computing power and data storage. The effects have already reached a critical level. More than 80 Yandex Cloud services have become unavailable, including PostgreSQL and ClickHouse databases, Managed Service for Kubernetes, and YandexGPT API AI tools. Major outages were also seen across Russia and Belarus, affecting apps and platforms such as Yandex Taxi, Yandex Food Delivery, Yandex Music, Kinopoisk, Yandex Pay, and the company's smart home systems equipped with the Alice assistant. External clients of Yandex Cloud were also affected.
Over a third of the largest corporations ranked in the RBC-500 previously stored their data on these servers. Yandex has launched an emergency program to help customers migrate to other providers. Recovery of the data centers is expected to be lengthy and costly. Due to ongoing technology sanctions, quick replacement of destroyed server equipment and advanced graphics processors—such as Nvidia A100 units located in Sasovo—is nearly impossible. Experts warn that the shortage of computing power in the country is likely to worsen sharply. This is expected to drive up the cost of all cloud services for end users.
