We all see the play, right? No way can RU supply oil & diesel to USA in any significant quantity owing to UKR's major hits on its infrastructure, internet & shipping. It's a domestic ploy to shift blame to Dems & UKR for high prices & shortages when they object to DJT's lifting of sanctions.

We've seen Trump do some shitty things to Ukraine since taking office (Oval Office incident; Alaska summit; Patriot U-turn) but today he's chosen to do a diesel deal with Putin that plays to Russia's economic/warchest advantage and restricts Ukraine's ability to defend itself.

Over the years when I was a Labour member, especially during the Corbyn years, many needed reminding that only those losing elections talk of, or care about, vote share. It's the battle cry of the defeated, not a winning message that saves face. On that note, here's Polanski...

The AfD and Reform immigration policies are almost identical. There is no plausible reason for considering one far right and the other not.

To hardcore Reform voters, maybe cruelty matters. However, the average voter is likely just disillusioned by their lot in life, have heard policies/promises from traditional parties that haven't delivered, and are now willing to "roll the dice". Giving up against Farage enables that sentiment.

I plead with people not to propagate their "it won't make a difference; his supporters love him" gloom. Actually, Farage is on the ropes and he didn't get there by himself. He's there because people continue to believe resistance does make a difference. It's also wrong on the facts. 1/3

Someone who has no official standing to represent the UK just joined someone with no official standing to represent France, and they signed a treaty between France and the UK. Nothing strange there.
Jordan Bardella and Nigel Farage signing what Bardella thinks is an MoU about migration. In fact, he just bought a Nigel Farage timeshare in Minorca.

I just don't get it with Badenoch. She struggled in all but very rare moments with Starmer's approach. She's definitely going to struggle with Burnham, who'll go on tangents when needed, and certainly doesn't suffer with modesty. She can't handle Farage. What do the Tories think will happen?

After seeing what Starmer was subjected to by the mob in his early days as PM at #PMQs, I won't lay into Burnham here today. He needs to be careful he doesn't build a reputation for being a yes man. He also needs to give straight answers to economic questions. I'll give him time before I judge.

The best we can hope for is that someone, somewhere, realises the vast majority of the UK population live in neither London or Manchester, and the vast majority of that vast majority are bored of everything being about London and Manchester.

In fairness, the discussion can't be reduced to two polar opposite positions. It might be convenient to do so, but it's not valid. Are cycle lanes bad? No Should cycle lanes be built? Yes Should millions/billions be spent on unused cycle lanes? No Could that money be better spent elsewhere? Yes

A problem for so many alternative views, especially warped ones as I think you're implying this is, is that they assume the person they concern gives a shit. This one in particular seems to miss the very obvious evidence that Jones correctly and clearly doesn't.

Sure. Burnham couldn't end rough sleeping in a single city, but obviously doing it across a whole country will be a doddle.

Tonight was the final straw for my Labour membership. Nandy/Mahmood staying, Phillipson/Jones going, and endless PLP infighting took a toll on my patience. The PLP can do what they want, they'll be fighting like rats in a sack in no time again, but at least they'll be doing it without my money.

From the campaign trail and the media studios to the Treasury, No10 and the Cabinet Office. It’s been a privilege to be in the cabinet of a Labour government and to serve the country. Andy Burnham has called to tell me I won’t be a part of his cabinet. I wish him and his team every success.

There's going to be a lot of disappointed people, that's for sure. To be fair, Burnham has been as clear as I think he can that not much will change, yet there are people on here who think him being PM means rejoining the EU, PR, taxing the rich squillions, and he'll kick Trump in the balls.

Paul Clarke @clarkeeeeee.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Maybe so, but if someone who isn't PM and hasn't been through the process to become party leader appoints a chancellor, I think we have bigger problems than the markets - and those bigger problems are definitely more important than what the media are whining about today in their quest for clicks.

I'm not saying we're a priority. I'm saying that claiming the UK can't offer any positive case for the EU to consider our application to rejoin isn't representative of real world economic factors, or objectives of a trade bloc. That's entirely separate to other factors such as stability & approval.
000
Paul Clarke @clarkeeeeee.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
There are plenty of reasons why the EU would see benefits to the UK rejoining, not least of which is that we represent an additional market of 70 million people for EU suppliers to sell into, with little to no red tape compared to now. I actually see the main obstacle being Slovakia's agreement.
110
Paul Clarke @clarkeeeeee.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
He's one of those rejoiners that ignores the very inconvenient point that it's the all EU member states who decide whether our application is considered/accepted, it's not just a matter of us rocking up and saying "we're coming back in whether you want us or not!"

Also, in the minds of many in Labour and the media, David was nailed on to win, no doubt. When he didn't, people's brains broke trying to compute it. Of course, this was pre-Brexit, so we hadn't seen what truly happens when brains liquify. Still a solid 4/10 on the Brexit brain liquifying scale.

I'll hang on until it's confirmed if there's a leadership vote for membership, then it's gone. This isn't because of Starmer going specifically. I've been a member since 1998 and I'm sick of all the PLP squabbling. Cancelling my membership won't change that, but they can do it without my money.

Cool story. Now, is Polanski going to put his big boy pants on at any point and run for a seat, or is this incessant trapping off all he's got? Currently, his opinion and words carry as much weight as Dave's do down the local pub.

Starmer's timetable was far more generous than mine would have been. "Right, I'm starting to get peckish, so it's lunch soon. Hope you backstabbers have been planning what you'll do next because I'm off down the pub and won't be coming back. FAFO!"

I'd keep the media standing around cooking in a heatwave for a good few hours yet. As for a handover, given the confidence of Burnham and his supporters, they've surely got it all worked out and don't need one....

Paul Clarke @clarkeeeeee.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
Burnham and his supporters don't want a membership vote because it'll shine a light on him having no new ideas and nothing new to say. Currently, he'd win, as things stand now today. After a few weeks of saying "I plan to do what they're doing, but in a northern accent"...I think certainty reduces.

I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions on Starmer. Some hate him, some love him. Much speculation on his future is framed as "picking a team". One thing's for sure, all that aside, if I was Starmer I'd definitely bow out from having to deal with this twat for even a single second longer! 👇

It's a flawed question, which should exclude double faults. Based on your question and Google telling me Williams' career average double faults per match is 2.7, I'll bet I'd get 2 points just standing still. If you meant a point as the result of my racket hitting the ball, then obviously not.
