For me, the song sounds like an attempt at optimism in the face of exhausted resignation. I read it as Little Death being bored with going through the motions of the original film's murder spree, maybe wishing for something new to do.

Sometime in the 90s, Nickelodeon Magazine had a contest where kids came up with holidays to celebrate in August. My entry was Dorsal Fin Day, August 23rd. I got in the magazine as an honorable mention.

Which brings me to another point: We need to destigmatize day jobs and side hustles that have nothing to do with our creative fields. I would rather the world be filled with weird and wonderful art from the local postman doing it in his basement at night, rather than the bankrolled pro whose goal is to create something anyone could enjoy. I’m thinking of a line from a recent Baffler issue on writing as “the profession that doesn’t exist”: “A side hustle can be treated as evidence that one has not been ‘successful enough’ with her creative work to survive on it as her sole source of income.” Why can’t we reframe it as a radical act of autonomy, to essentially be your own patron? Why do we always assume the grass is greener? Or that every job must involve our creativity, as if it’s going to disappear should we save some for ourselves?

The stats we use to "measure" an economy (the movement of money/goods) has very little to do with how it is experienced by people. I don't give a fuck if the economy is ☝️🤓"technically doing well" if the material reality for most ppl is that they're financially struggling more than they were in 2021.

Is the economy defined by the metrics used to measure it, or are the metrics an attempt to understand the economy? If it's the latter, what specifically are they trying to understand about it? What utility do these numbers serve to the average person, likely struggling more than they were in 2021?
