🚨BREAKING: Puerto Rico has been part of the United States since 1898, and people still act confused that Puerto Ricans are American. States that joined after Puerto Rico: • Oklahoma — 1907 • New Mexico — 1912 • Arizona — 1912 • Alaska — 1959 • Hawaii — 1959 Yet somehow this is still news to folks.

Our government’s priorities are entirely backward. And purposefully so.
Screenshot of a tweet by James Tate reading, “An educated populace is a threat to power.” The tweet includes a quoted graphic stating that ICE is offering a $45,000 signing bonus and $100,000 starting salary, compared to a teacher earning $55,000 in their eighth year with a master’s degree, arguing that education has been intentionally defunded.

It's small business Saturday! It's a great day to visit a local independent bookstore. Every day is a great day to buy books, and independent bookstores work so hard to support authors. :)

When The U.S. Government Tried To Replace Migrant Farmworkers With High Schoolers
In 1964, a program that brought migrant Mexican laborers to the U.S. ended. So the U.S. recruited American students to pick crops instead. When they saw their living conditions, strikes ensued.

This captures much of the frustration of today.
The image is an X post by @RealJakeBroe from 7 hours ago, featuring a two-panel comic. The top panel shows a scientist pointing to a chart with a general trend and an outlier, illustrating a rational argument. The bottom panel depicts a person labeled "ANTI VAX" pointing to a similar chart, labeling it "CONSPIRACY THEORY" with "Lies" and an outlier called "IRREFUTABLE PROOF!!!", satirizing irrational arguments. The caption reads, "It is difficult to win an argument with a smart person. It is impossible to win an argument with an idiot."

💻 Day 40 of #100DaysOfCode The before and after I optimized today's daily Leetcode for Big O time complexity :D I was using a full on 2D matrix at first so that I could visualize this literal spreadsheet. After submitting I realized no one is seeing this sheet so I can make it a dictionary instead!
Leetcode #3484. Design Spreadsheet.
My first accepted solution beat only 9% of other solutions with a runtime of 797ms. Leetcode #3484. Design Spreadsheet.
My second solution beat 66.67% of solutions with a runtime of 187 ms, significantly better. On the right you can see the start of my solution where I initialize a dictionary instead of a 2D matrix.

💻 Day 39 of #100DaysOfCode Hi all! Lots of exciting things happening in my world of code. ✨ I solved a leetcode-style problem for my Java class today, am continuing to work on two React JS projects with some friends, started dabbling with Lua through Solarus, aaaand did #9 in Leetcode.
#9 Palindrome Number accepted solution. On the left:
Runtime 8 ms Beats 52.25%
Memory 17.98 MB Beats 19.95%

On the right, my solution code that turns the number into a string, then uses a for loop to check that one half of the number matches the other half. My Java solution for “isSameEventSequence” shows using a stack and enacting the push/pop events to determine if two arrays have matching event sequences. Lots of comments to explain my work throughout.Sneak peek to part of my main timer code that’s written in ReactJS.

💻 Day 38 of #100DaysOfCode Started my DSA class yesterday, and it’s going to be in Java (gasp!) Worked on my first lab with the target sum premise, solved it with the non-optimal solution and the hashmap solution. Java's not my favorite but I learned more about hashmaps in Java with this problem
A screenshot of my lab code for getIndices() where I show two solutions. O(n) uses a hashmap and goes through the array of numbers just once. O(n^2) solution uses nested for loops to try to find the right indices.

💻 Day 37 of #100DaysOfCode Completed today’s Leetcode Daily Problem: #3446. Sort Matrix by Diagonals (medium). Not the most optimal in terms of runtime, but the memory was decent! Going through nested arrays always makes me think of using nested for loops- just me? 👀
A solved Leetcode daily question for sorting a matrix by its diagonals. On the left, the “Accepted” screen for 1306 test cases passed; a 21ms runtime that beats only 20% of solutions & 17.76mb memory that beats 83% of solutions. On the right, the start of my solution that uses nested for loops, sorting, and print statements for debugging.

💻 Day 36 of #100DaysOfCode Completed a quick Clash of Code on CodinGame where you’re given a log of parentheses and you need to determine what floor the elevator ended up on. “(“ meant 1 floor up, and “)” meant 1 floor down.
My submitted Clash of Code solution. My solution starts on line 14 where I create a currFloor variable and then a for loop to go through each bracket given.

💻 Day 35 of #100DaysOfCode 🚧 Worked on today’s Leetcode problem. I think I'm close but feeling fuzzy so I haven’t solved it entirely. Posting now before I forget! Will try to work on it later.

💻 Day 34 of #100DaysOfCode Today’s Medium Leetcode was a fun one for me because it had me searching “factorial for addition” lol and it reminded me of an existing formula for that! Even though I didn’t solve it optimally, I’m glad I got a solution for this problem. Yay Coding! 💻
Completed Leetcode #2348. Number of Zero-Filled Subarrays. Left shows Accepted solution with Runtime of 73ms that Beats only 11.65% of solutions. On the right it shows the start of my solution with a lot of variable set up and creating subarrays for each new set of zeros.

Day 33 of #100DaysOfCode Big Milestone yesterday as it marked the end of my job as Snap Engineering Academy Coach! It was such a wonderfully rewarding experience and I’m so excited to see what our scholars do next. 💛 Here’s two easy Leetcode problems I did this morning :)
“maximum69Number” problem with 0ms runtime, my solution shows I converted the int variable to string and using a for loop to go through each digit. “isPowerOfFour” problem with my 2-line solution where I run:
while n > 1: n/=4
return True if n == 1 else False
with a 0ms Runtime

Leetcode’s #2561 Rearranging Fruits shows the description on the elft and my attempted solution on the right. Leetcode’s #118 Pascal’s Triangle with my accepted solution on the right with many comments including input output, and solution description. Runtime on the left “beat” 100%

A completed leetcode problem with 3 accepted submission on the left, and my code with my commented plan on the right.

While Kristi Noem’s out here blaming everyone but herself, here’s her own April press release bragging about clawing back $882M in disaster resilience grants. The kind that could’ve helped in Texas. They’d rather wage culture wars than actually protect human lives.
FEMA Ends Wasteful, Politicized Grant Program, Returning Agency to Core Mission of Helping Americans Recovering from Natural Disasters
Release Date: April 4, 2025
Under Secretary Noem, DHS is eliminating waste, fraud and abuse
WASHINGTON - FEMA is ending the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program and canceling all BRIC applications from Fiscal Years 2020-2023. If grant funds have not been distributed to states, tribes, territories and local communities, funds will be immediately returned either to the Disaster Relief Fund or the U.S. Treasury.
Statement Attributable to a FEMA Spokesperson:
"The BRIC program was yet another example of a wasteful and ineffective FEMA program. It was more concerned with political agendas than helping Americans affected by natural disasters. Under Secretary Noem's leadership, we are committed to ensuring that Americans in crisis can get the help and resources they need."
Approximately $882 million of funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will be returned to the U.S. Treasury or reapportioned by Congress in the next fiscal year. The 2021 law made $1 billion available for BRIC over five years, $133 million to date has been provided for about 450 applications. FEMA estimates more than $3.6 billion will remain in the Disaster Relief Fund to assist with disaster response and recovery for communities and survivors.
Ending this program will help ensure that grant funding aligns with the President's Executive Orders and Secretary Noem's direction and best support states and local communities in disaster planning, response and recovery.
