Alexander Pliushchenko is still a very young boy and who knows what his future holds. But using Star Wars "I am your father," dark side and all, for his JGP debut season is genius. He should bring it back for the 2034 Olympics. #JGPFigure

I would have looked forward to this book anyway, because it's delightful, but also, I'm in it. (I'm a fish). That's a first! But as I said, DIFFY by @brianlies.bsky.social is delightful and you will love it. The illustrations, are, of course, wonderful. Out today!! #bookbirthday

**Why Preordering Books Matter** Ever wonder why authors constantly encourage readers to preorder their upcoming releases? Because they really make a difference. Using our upcoming upper middle grade novel TOO BIG TO SAY as the example, I explain how. theauthorvillage.substack.com/p/why-preord...

After I illustrated MONARCH AND MOURNING CLOAK (by @mstewartscience.bsky.social) I became immersed in nature journaling. I'm most taken with the native wildflower perpetual journal; you add one new entry each week, so the journal takes shape slowly over time.

Nature journaling has made me much more observant. Plus I'm learning what all the plants are around here! I walked by a shagbark hickory tree for years without noticing it or realizing what it was.

Oh goodness. I should probably do that. LOLLY ON THE ICE is about an anxious little figure skater; MONARCH AND MOURNING CLOAK is nonfiction about two very different butterflies and it's fascinating. @mstewartscience.bsky.social wrote the butterfly one.
Cover of the picture book Monarch and Mourning Cloak shows different stages in the life cycles of both butterflies against an orange background.A sturdy little girl in an orange coat and yellow scarf with white stars skates across the ice in front of a big moon, followed by a happy dog.

Apparently library books can be banned so your kid doesn't accidentally see one with LGBTQ people in it, but it's okay to put up giant billboards that tell my kid that his family is invalid.

Beige people? Just a guess. "Be beige, not rainbow" kind of spells it out, doesn't it? And then there's the part where they declare children's books with LGBTQ characters as being sexually explicit, in so many words.

Incredibly overdue. The prize money for Grand Prix events hasn't changed in over 20 years. Most medal-winning skaters have a goal of just breaking even for the year, while corporations make big money off of their hard work.

A tiny number of people are responsible for most book bans in public schools and public libraries in most places. Why are we letting this happen? These are our libraries, for everyone! The book one person hates may be exactly what your child needs.

A black and white graphic with the AABB logo and text that reads: H.R. 8705 will harm students’ education, critical thinking, and access to a diversity of books on their library shelves. In order to keep critical funding, public schools will be forced to preemptively pull thousands of books from their classrooms.

As a coalition of authors, illustrators, editors, and other book creators, we unequivocally support students’ right to read and access literature with diverse ideas and perspectives for their personal and educational development. We at AABB ask the U.S. House of Representatives to reject H.R. 8705 and protect students’ constitutional right to free speech and free expression. We stay committed to doing everything in our power to defend the freedom to read.

Sincerely and respectfully,
Authors Against Book Bans
