One thing they don’t tell you about being a working artist is that every once in a while a picture is simply Haunted and, for reasons beyond the reach of man, simple things you have done a thousand times will be Very Hard and Look Bad and you will lose ten years of skill for the duration of that job

When I was a kid in the 90's it was so common It seemed like a legit career path, now you hardly see it anymore and I feel like theres a darker reason for that shift. I haven't picked up MR in over a decade. Even back then they were alarmingly skinny, and the how-to articles felt more like "get this from the hobby shop, paint it, and you're done".
