I'm actually very excited for this story because it's the first publication where I wrote the first draft without editing at all (a la 90 day novel), which means this story has a stronger shape than my others.

COMNG SOON! I just sent my edits back for my piece in this (I need to hire a copyeditor!). Part WV-themed middle-aged anarchopunk antifa crime fiction. Part hitachi and sickle romance. All inspired by Woody.

There was genuinely a time I just wanted to be Anne Carson. My first thesis was about her, Angela Carter, Virginia Woolf and Jeanette Winterson. I even won an award for it. But alas, all I can ever be is just me.

Congratulations to the woman who taught me about the gender of sound, about water, about tangos and the beauty of the husband, about grief, about joy, about how to write poetry and essays, and about being the only person in the classroom who had ever heard of Anne Carson!

Alll of this. I started my career in construction, working office jobs alongside people who worked trades. Know how many 60-year-old guys I saw working as bricklayers? Doing demo? Zero. How many 50-year-old roofers there are? Zero. One reason unions fight for high wages is because careers are SHORT.

This is why I get pissed off when anyone accuses me of being an elitist when I say young people should go to college if they can. I say that because my dad was a local lineman and contractor who did heavy physical labor for years and has had chronic back pain since his early 30s

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”
