If you want really top-notch morality in your fantasy fiction, then you need Terry Pratchett. I just reread 'Snuff' and was in tears almost all the way through.

Don't forget having a few ethnic friends with names like 'Cho Chang' and 'Seamus Finnigan' and bankers who look like the most disgusting antisemitic caricatures ever imagined. I'm sure the black character with 'Shacklebolt' as a surname had nothing to do with slavery.

It’s grimly hilarious that our government’s McCarthyist crackdowns on opposition have got so bad, so idiotic and so malicious that they may have now bullshat themselves into prosecuting the national security advisor’s wife for a terrorist offence, over a tweet.

Brett's crisps (from round our way in Brittany) are, in fact, the best. The butter flavour ones are classic with no pretentions (taste like baked potato with a huge knob of butter melted on it) but their tartiflette, fromage du Jura and Falafel flavours respectively are also fantastic.

What's even worse with borders '9 in a packet' is it makes it more difficult to split between 2 of you, or 4. Twelve should be the default then if there's 2,3,4 or 6 of you it's easy. Okay, maybe 60 would make more sense.

It's an orange club biscuit and that's a fact. If it's good enough to replace a pint of blood, according to the Blood Transfusion Service, it must be healthy too.

That's just out and out snobbery. People are generally stupid, and in many scientific experiments have rated the same food as tasting better if it was more expensive. Those fancy pub sausages rolls are straight out of the cash & carry freezer.

The BBC’s Dangerous Attempt to Balance Truth With Lies
When you have one side lying and the other side trying to tell the truth, the BBC's misguided approach to balance inevitably favours the liar, argues former BBC reporter and producer Patrick Howse

We've just bought a Fiat 500e, we're picking it up on 2nd Nov. We basically only go into our local city to the supermarket and doctor/hospital visits, and to the recycling in our village. Which is good because it only has a 120km range. (We have a motorhome for longer trips).

I had a friend who thought Bowie was singing about Ziggy 'Making love with his Eagle'. As for me, I know it's not the lyric, but I still hear 'The Hero Stabs you in the Face' in Boogie Wonderland.

Happy tenth anniversary to the time the Reading Chronicle didn’t know what a plant room is.
Crane disruption
AN enormous crane that will lift a room full of plants into a 14 sto-rey building will close town cen-tre roads in October.
Station Road and Garrard Street will be shut and Friar Street and Blagrave Street reversed between 5am October 15 and 5am October 17. The temporary measures will allow contractors working on the Thames Tower to install a 500 tonne crane that will put a prefabricated plant room onto the roof of the building.

A 92 year old isn't going to suffer from the reduced pension equation. It's the 21 year olds who basically can't afford to put money aside from the day to day struggle to pay massively increased rent, food and energy bills into any kind of private pension who'll suffer the most.

I'm something of an expert, having worked in classified ads for a long time, and I don't think that there was ever a time people would or could put their home phone numbers in personal ads, it was always PO Boxes until there were premium rate voicemail systems.
