Sometimes I think about where we would be as a culture today if #MeToo in 2017 had radicalized more straight men into fighting sexual abuse instead of creating a culture of "oh god don't get me CANCELED" and "fake accusations" paranoia and resentment

In the 1970s, the Canadian Gay Archives was approached by the Ontario Archives to take over some of the CGA's material. It was a moment of deep reflection. In the end, they chose to reject the offer out of fear that a homophobic government would decide to eliminate it, a la Nazi Germany.

Le Guin’s anarchism and why it’s so great.Adrienne Row-Smith (she/her) is a Queer Black visual specialist based in so-called Ottawa, working across photo and video to create bold, impactful imagery. Rooted in a deep commitment to authenticity and accessibility in media, she co-founded The Grove, which is an interdisciplinary art and community space offering affordable rentals and sliding-scale events. Through both her creative practice and community work, Adrienne aims to build a space and working body that reflects the elements of care, resistance, and belonging, where disenfranchised voices are not only heard but celebrated.Lee Arden is the author of The Politics of Lonely: Why Is Friendship So Hard?, a book that takes friendship out of an individualistic context and argues that we’re struggling with our friendships because we live in the decaying ruins of colonial capitalism. Lee also runs the small press and zine distro Sheer Spite Press and has written lots of zines, including PALS: The Radical Possibilities of Friendship, which formed the basis for this new book.

Librarians! Zine-Makers! This new Temporary Services zine (made with @doormouse12.bsky.social) is for you! We interviewed 4 public librarians that maintain zine collections and the result is a beautiful 44 page booklet. See and learn how they do it! $10.00 (or $3.00 PDF) from www.halfletterpress.com
From the front and back cover of the booklet:

Public Librarians Discuss Zine Collections

We asked librarians at four public libraries to talk about their library’s zine collection. What advice can they share with zine makers that want to get their work into a public library, or librarians that want to start a collection at their library? Was it hard to convince others that zines are a resource that the library should collect? What collecting models did they follow? How did they build the collection?

Interviewees:

Tim Devin / Somerville Public Library
 (Somerville, MA)
Angi Brzycki & Ziba Pérez /
Los Angeles Public Library
(Los Angeles, CA)
Alicia Tate / Multnomah County Library
(Portland, OR)

Big congrats to Jamez Terry! grief poet, reverend, and devoted zinester See You In the Mail (out yesterday!) is your perfect last soft summer read
See You In the Mail
Jamez Terry

cover: a man is seen checking his mailbox while another reads a letter"I am absolutely enamored with this book. A tender tribute to zine culture and punk community, it is accordingly a meditation on creativity, queerness, and slowing down enough to appreciate not just love through snail mail but all the small, beautiful details of our world. I never wanted to leave its soft, inspiring embrace."
-ANITA KELLY, author of Something Wild & Wonderful

As long as Greg has a typewriter, strong coffee, and a pocket full of postage stamps, he's alright with the world. His zine, LONG WALKS ON THE BEACH, parodies Craigslist personal ads an ode to the sweet absurdity of public declarations of desire. But hidden somewhere in each issue, there's one quiet ad that reveals something of Greg's actual self. No one has ever found him there. Until a letter arrives from a reader called "M."

Their correspondence swiftly becomes the most honest relationship Greg has ever had, but M, a musician, seems to retreat when Greg suggests they meet. As Greg gets closer to the truth, he's forced to confront the walls around his own heart. Set in the halls of mid-2000's zine festivals, at underground music venues, and on the rocky, moody coast of Maine, See You in the Mail is a feel-good queer romance about the radical intimacy of being truly seen.

"A slow-burn love story about falling for someone who really sees you.

Beautifully intimate and inventive."

it's not a self-help book, but it is pretty opinionated. The Politics of Lonely: Why is Friendship So Hard? is officially out today! bookshop.org/p/books/the-...
Three pieces of advice from The Politics of Lonely
(swipe to see one more that got cut from the finished book)
- “Each of us needs a lot of people, and we need them very badly.”
- “It is worth considering whether you might let your friendships inconvenience you a fraction as much as your job does.”
- “Kill the Margaret Thatcher in your head”

out today, 2026-09-10stated reason for not writing a self-help book: “I believe that the message that you can fix all your problems on an individual level implies that they’re your fault to begin with.”

actual reason for not writing a self-help book: i do not give good advice :)

screenshot from the book manuscript, where i have written "have sex with one of your friends! just kidding.... unless?", with a comment asking "too unhinged?" and my very patient editor replying "probably, haha!"

Surprising fact: We are actually NOT seeing more food recalls this year compared with recent years. What we’re seeing is an increase in the number of illnesses caused by contaminated food. This is the largest ever cyclospora outbreak & third-largest foodborne illness outbreak of any kind on record.
Number of food recalls by year
There have been 162 food recalls posted this year by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture.

Chart shows yearly food recall numbers from 2017 to 2026.
