Fourth 11-hour day this week 🫥 I hate training people the entire day while I’m triaging things that pop up related to my job. But next week I’ll hopefully see the fruits of my labor Anyways here’s a 1768 German book arguing against the existence of apparitions and vampires

My library has the most comprehensive Bram Stoker collection in the world, with over 4,000 items connected to Stoker, Dracula, and vampires. A large bulk of it is still unprocessed/uncataloged, but I’m really excited to have a new staff member working through it now! news.emory.edu/features/202...

In the 1860s, chess player Howard Staunton produced a photo-facsimile of Shakespeare's First Folio. It was one of the earliest attempts to use new technology to reproduce an old book. @folger.edu has Staunton’s proof sheets. I looked at them last week. If you like media/books/history, they're fun.

Librarians & archivists go to work every day and devote their time and energy to make things accessible and discoverable, today and for many, many days to come. If you see us at the dumpsters, mind your business! Nobody thinks more about the preservation of knowledge and the human record than we do.

I think there are few people around today that are inspirational the way Dolly Parton was. Not only because of everything she accomplished in her life despite many hardships, but because of how genuinely kind and supportive she was to everyone else despite her enormous success.
