Send a dm if you need any help with it! You’ll just want to make sure it’s to a candidate who qualifies

Yes they sure will, if the donation goes to a qualifying state-level (not federal) candidate or entity. It’s a way of evening the playing field a bit with public financing.

Donation advice for the close Minnesota State Senate races. You don’t need to donate to the ones who already hit their spending cap! The ones below are the ones that could really use your help. If you’re going to, do it soon so they can put the money to use!

Experiences like this are part of why I love to bike to places whenever I can. There's just not that feeling of exploration and discovery when you're driving along a highway.

The only stressful part is the stretch on 2nd Street North, between 26th Avenue North and the Upper Harbor Terminal. But Minneapolis has plans to fix that stretch next year! www.minneapolismn.gov/government/p...

If you ever need to go from Minneapolis to Coon Rapids/Anoka/Brooklyn Park, I suggest taking it! It's a pretty direct, mostly low-stress route along West River Parkway.

A couple weeks ago I went out to Coon Rapids to doorknock for Angela Nelson, and on my ride home I stumbled across the Coon Rapids Dam, which is a stunningly beautiful place. I was back in Coon Rapids yesterday to judge a high school debate tournament, and made sure to go back on the same route.

We functionally pay violent drivers over $1 trillion per year in subsidies so they can kill and horrifically maim millions of Americans per year. That's the medical/loss of life/disability cost *paid by victims and society* for letting drivers drive violently. All so they can have cheap insurance.

This is a must read for all progressives.

Speaking of Park Board finances - gonna keep bringing up that the annual parking pass has been ONLY $50 for YEARS. You could easily double that, and it’d still be a good deal!

She definitely doesn't *need* to resign in November. I was under the impression that she would wait until the moment she becomes gov, in which case she would get to appoint the vacancy. But it would probably be good if she used that time to focus on preparing to be gov. Current term ends Jan 3, 2031

Not sure a full ban is in the cards or necessarily desirable in some cases. But we absolutely must reconsider our relationship to parkways and I'm proud that the board voted to do just that. Will have updates on the pilot soon! Be sure to stay tuned and engage with it so it can be a huge success!

Hey terrible news! Mn Sen. Ann Rest has cut the HCMC-saving sales tax plan from 1% to .25%, hiked the Twins’ skim (from $7m to $9m, way above current $1.1m). The sales tax will fall far short of what HCMC needs, so will do more to save the Pohlads than the hospital. assets.senate.mn/committees/2...

There's a new Delete-All amendment posted in the Senate Taxes committee. It cuts the tax from 1.0% to 0.25%, and increases the amount the Twins get from $7 million per year to $9 million. That would not leave enough revenue to save HCMC.

Appreciate Chris surfacing this - the Twins grafting on a take is a major concern on the D side even as they labor to rescue HCMC. I believe the initial lease only required $1.1m per year, adjusted for inflation, from the county. law.marquette.edu/assets/sport...

If you agree, it would be really helpful to let your legislators know that. Ask them to support the sales tax increase for HCMC, but not the $7 million/yr for the Stadium!
0242
Chris Meyer @chrisjohnmeyer.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
The bill should be amended to shift that $7 million/yr to HCMC, libraries, youth activities, homeless shelters or public transit. There are so many pressing needs that are way more important than subsidizing a billionaire's stadium.
1526
Chris Meyer @chrisjohnmeyer.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
In my job working for Senator Fateh, I get a lot of phone calls asking for him to support "repurposing the ballpark sales tax to fund HCMC." Almost all of the callers are under the impression that the bill would redirect money *away* from stadium. But it gives them way more!
1253
Chris Meyer @chrisjohnmeyer.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
Please understand that this would be *new* money for the Twins. The original deal was that when the stadium debt was paid off, the 0.15% sales tax would expire. It was not part of the deal to keep giving the Twins money after that.

Chris Meyer @chrisjohnmeyer.bsky.social · 13/04/2026
I strongly support the sales tax increase to fund HCMC. We can't let our safety net hospital close. But I am intensely opposed to the $7 million per year that SF 4986 would also give to the Twins Stadium. It's a major expansion of corporate welfare. The Pohlads should pay for it!
