Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall has now apologized for running an ad attacking Democrat Adam Hamilton over abuse allegations at a camp Hamilton ran that used footage of a *different* camp. That camp's owners were extremely upset. www.fourstateshomepage.com/news/kansas-...
But one part of the ad sparked an entirely different controversy. The ad discusses sexual abuse at a church camp and shows footage of Tall Oaks Camp and Conference Center in Linwood, Kansas.

The problem: the abuse did not happen at Tall Oaks.

The Church of the Resurrection, where Hamilton was pastor, never held its camp there.

Tall Oaks’ general counsel sent the Marshall campaign a cease and desist letter demanding the footage be removed. The Marshall campaign complied.

Dan Merrick, executive director of Tall Oaks, says the damage could be significant.

“The damage could be insurmountable — people say that perception is reality, and if people have the perception that something like that has or could happen out here, it could be the end of us as we know it,” Merrick said.

Merrick says he wants more than the campaign simply removing the image.

“My message to the Marshall campaign is the statement that they made, claiming that the image used was a stock photo, is both inaccurate and it’s not enough,” Merrick said. “We would request a formal apology from Roger Marshall, not just his campaign people.”

Hundreds of thousands of students have taken to France’s streets. Students are demanding more school funding and decrying teacher shortages and neglected buildings. But check out what Trump and Alex Jones are saying, hoping to generate new outrages against Muslims, Black people, and immigrants.

The idea that ossoff is like Tammy Baldwin is very much not true. Check out what Tammy Baldwin said when asked about the immigration law Ossoff helped push through the Filibuster. It’s nice that people like his owns on TV, though.

Look, I was never someone who claimed that Pat Mcrory lost in 2016 bc of the trans bathroom ban backlash. I spent yrs trying to tell people that the narrative about that was likely wrong. The same is true now but in the other direction.

That’s nice that the one topic feels different to you but the point is the people who get paid to run campaigns in tough races will always tell the Dem candidate to adopt the right wing framing of an issue. It is obviously stupid by the way for Jackson to do that on immigration.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty stupid for Dem politicians to immediately associate immigration w Sex trafficking, when speaking about the issue. But consultants and centrists love messaging about this stuff, to impress voters for owning the brown scum.
100
chris_fumo96 @chrisfumo.bsky.social · 10h
Yeah that’s certainly some of the logic the Dem consultants are using to demand the bigotry signalling. Troy Jackson in Maine for ex now reflexively mentions sex traffickers when asked about immigration, bc dc consultants took over his entire message. That’s a similar ex to the trans stuff.

chris_fumo96 @chrisfumo.bsky.social · 10h
I’m sure most of the candidates signaling the bigotry really do believe this will help them, but there is a lot more going on here.

chris_fumo96 @chrisfumo.bsky.social · 10h
Ie dem consultants are telling the candidates that they must do this for various reasons, irrespective of attack ads.
100
chris_fumo96 @chrisfumo.bsky.social · 10h
If you read the memos from dem consultants it’s very clear that a lot of this is being done bc they personally want to do it. Not just bc they really believe it can impact votes.

Trump's lawlessness is more pressing, but let's not forget: the GWBush admin was also overflowing with incompetent, corrupt Republicans who were pathologically hostile to the rule of law. None of this was necessary or helpful, but it made them feel manly and it was good money for gov't contractors.
“A detainee who is shackled, transported to a former C.I.A. black site, and intentionally kept ignorant of both his right to remain silent and the inadmissibility of his prior coerced confessions, cannot be said to be making an ‘essentially free and unconstrained choice,’” he wrote.

This article (and Slade's book) are fan fiction. Trumpism isn't a break from Reaganism, it's the intended result, a gov't by, for, and of corruption, lawlessness, racism, and misogyny. That's why Reaganites with power—Thomas, Alito, Kennedy, McConnell—worked hard to empower and entrench Trumpism.

Voters in Oregon aren’t about to shift 15 points to the right for federal races, that’s already been happening in New York State for the past 5 yrs. Kotek — and brown before here — is terribly unpopular but voters aren’t shifting en masse in favor of trump and Rs.

How does this explain Washington state and Connecticut? Is Oregon polling about to show Rs winning the independent vote for Congress?? The key here is the voters are also shifting massively for FEDERAL races, as they already did in 22/24.
