We don't live in slop world because of AI, we live in slop world because the purpose of everything is to generate a return on investment for capital. We evaluate everything along metrics designed to serve that purpose over any other. AI is just the best way we found of optimizing for these metrics.

man the number of crazy stuff happening lately. Got some serious things to take care of in life while some people will still find time to complain and be like" stop spending more time with your sick father than me pls." What the actual fuck.

🏥The Red Cross Hospital, an abandoned sanatorium in Italy. Located atop a remote hill over 1,000 metres above sea level. In the years before antibiotics, facilities like this were the only treatment for many respiratory diseases. The site closed in the 1980s […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

An abandoned chapel in a former hospital features rows of wooden pews, faded yellow walls, and a round window above the altar.

An abandoned room features two rows of rusty beds, peeling walls, and a window, capturing a decaying dormitory scene

Hard to believe this will ever convince Pro Artists who mass deserted the site long ago to come back, but I'm very curious to see where this will go.

An incredible unexpected turn of events. After the crazy stupid Epic and Sweeney's whims to turn the site to a huge genAI pile of dogshit, it looks like KitBash is now trying to clean up their mess.

I adore Weychester. In its streets and wyndes one can play the game of guessing which secret society lives behind which door. Here the Order of the Clapperclaw, there the Grand Lodge of Mirrors. The Duat Club is easy to spot, but many other entrances demand our pondering. – #CLNolan

The amount of people I know who have been laid off from games industry jobs and are deciding to leave games entirely as a result is not only extremely saddening (of course), but also genuinely scary. We have lost legitimately thousands of years of knowledge and experience in the last four years.

The Metroid visual retrospective artbook seems to be stuck pre delivery on Amazon, mine got randomly canceled this morning for no reason. It seems to be available everywhere else so if you preordered it on Amazon (at least .fr or .com.be) might as well cancel it and get it somewhere else.

A quote from Garry Newman [Garry's Mod] I think about often

A screenshot of text on a website

The title text says: I don’t know anything

The body text says: If you’ve never made games before you have a huge advantage. If I’d have had any industry experience before making GMod I probably would have never made it. Your naivety is a huge advantage, it’s your edge.

Don’t try to emulate people who are in the industry – do your own thing, make your own mistakes, find your own way. It’ll lead you down a bunch of paths that no-one will ever take because they know the ‘right way’. The world needs those paths explored.

Pencil drawing of a clock with an ornamental clock attached to the war damaged and restored church. A traceried window was removed to create a wide arch into an open space used as a peace garden.

Little known story about my time at Retro Studios. A very large portion of the Prime series concept art was done traditionally, and most of it was unceremoniously shoved into a flat file. I got permission and a small budget to organize, frame and hang select images (from DKC as well) in the studio.
