From the introduction to the Hookland Tourist Board I=SEE STRANGE HOOKLAND book:
REMEMBER:

Don’t go out by yourself at night. Many things in this book are thought to be imaginary, but being out by yourself in the dark can still be dangerous – even if you don’t encounter the Danebury Grim.

If you see something that scares you, tell a parent or a trusted adult such as a teacher. In extreme cases where you can’t find an adult you can trust, you could even tell a police officer.

Don’t provoke Faeries of any type. You would not like people shouting your name, poking you in your bed with a stick or throwing stones in your bath, so don’t do it to Faeries. No-one likes ill-behaved children, least of all the Elves of Hookland.

Don’t signal for UFOs with torches. It is not only a waste of batteries, it can be misinterpreted by the emergency services. Besides, we can’t promise that all UFOs are friendly or interpret your signal as a positive message.

Show some respect for the graves of the dead. If you were buried in the ground you wouldn’t appreciate another child dancing on your grave or trying to dig it up would you?

Remember to take extra care when looking for things around water – both by the sea and along rivers and pools. Even if he is imaginary, the King-Under-the-Sea should be shown some deference and Stay Belows not encouraged to grab at you when dangling your legs or trailing your hands in cool, apparently calm water.

Imaginary things can’t hurt you unless you believe in them with all your heart and then they are really quite dangerous.

The post box at Oak Acre has gained a reputation as one those places where you can post a letter to a dead loved one and possibly receive a reply. The GPO investigated to see if someone in from the Father Christmas letters reply team had gone rogue, but the results haven't been publicly shared.

Even in death, disparities between rich and poor are rarely erased. The wealthy departed live apart in grand houses, employ a watch of lithic angels. Sometimes they retain pale servants to tend to them, running boneyard errands under a constancy of parasols. – #CLNolan

We had a nice surprise recently. A box of special Red Phone Box hardcovers was discovered. You'd think we would have one, but when we had to leave London, I accidentally packed only one copy and it was one of the mass printed ones. I'd forgotten how beautiful they are.
Illustration from Red Phone Box. Maz Fishbein and Max, the cat. Look how beautiful the layout is.Illustration from Red Phone Box for a story originally called Hello, Dolly, but when we couldn't get permission to use the song lyrics, it was changed.
The illustration features a bunch of weird kids keeping a woman in a phone box. All illustrations by Kara Yoon Frame. The end papers have these beautiful out of copyright historical London maps. Slip cover by Gábor Csigas.

I lived in a pub when I was younger, a rural spot a short way outside the market town of Andover in (Old) Hampshire, southern England. One of the places I used to drive out to was an old, decrepit hill-side pond in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by really gnarled trees.

Some homes hold their ghosts with quiet forbearance. They do not boast of their phantoms nor advertise for psychic researchers to poke and test them. They accommodate both living and dead residents, afford privacy to both sides. Places of gentle spectral tolerance. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

The land has been year-walked. The future has been met in the lanes and ways. The cunning folk have conferred. On the doors of The Raven, The Woodwose's Crown and all the other pubs they use, the proclamation has gone up: 'This is the YEAR OF THE GREEN PATHS.'

What the cunning folk of Hookland do on #NewYearsEve - year-walking. May your troubles not cross the threshold of midnight. May blessings walk down the lane to meet you in the coming year.
Year Walking

Many countries have a living folk tradition of being able to see into the future at certain times of the year. In Sweden, it is known as Årslång – year walking – and it is practised at Christmas and New Year’s Eve depending on the village. Practitioners are said to go into a deep trance where they encounter various supernatural beings who will challenge them with riddles and tasks. If successfully completed, the beings will then allow a glimpse of events that will happen in the coming year.

Strangely, the cunning folk of Hookland also use the term year walking for some forms of divination. Whether it is fairly safe to dismiss some folklorists claims that the shared names shows that the Hookland type of omen walking has clear ties to the Swedish via Danish invasions is a matter I shall not decide. There are both signifiant similarities and differences between the same named practice. For a start, year walking in Hookland is not restricted to only Christmas and New Year’s Eve – dates far too arbitrary, far too tied to calendar convenience for the county’s cunning folk. The practice is also undertaken at the quarter days and other old festivals such as St. Lazarus Eve when the worlds of the living and the dead are known to rub against each other.
