We should all know of William Parker who led the resistance en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William... He worked with Frederick Douglass after fleeing pa. I’ve always wondered if he and Douglass had a connection due to both being born on the eastern shore of Maryland.

Home now, and in my actual bed. Backup Daughter & her teen are couchsurfing at another friend's; we kept sleeping in our truck until they had somewhere to go. Nice to have our house back. No travel plans until Feb.

Dermatologist took a biopsy on a small spot. Used lidocaine, which I warned them causes me panic attacks. No real alternative. Got the biopsy done, me twitching & hyperventilating. Then I went to Daughter's & lay down with a cat on top of me for several hours.

So clear that we have to make rape charges stick better, but there's an elephant in the room that we sidled around during COVID, too: bad things happen to good people. They happen to people who've done nothing wrong, or the same percentage wrong as the next person. Just World fallacy has to die.

For example, saying the candidate "put herself in a vulnerable position". She was literally just existing. The shame she felt, that was so visible to others-- there's still this internally-held idea that if something bad happens, there's something wrong with you, not 'humanity'/your environment.

I had an argument with my dept head during my annual eval, he thought I needed to be more "well rounded," I thought I should be allowed to apply the skills in which I actually excelled. Some of us should be allowed to be scalpels, not hammers.

They've been working very closely with the tribes. The second site has a new name, the first Indigenous naming on the river in well over a century, haich ikt’at’uu, and there's a canoe haul-in for tribal use only. Beautiful day on the river.
Siuslaw River in Oregon. Twice as wide through here as it used to be. Lots of herons, egrets, and cormorants fishing, and lots of people too.

Went on a Siuslaw estuary tour today. One preserve hasn't had any work done, but it breached its dike & is well on its way toward restoring itself as a wetland. The other has had a big levee removed, huge salmon habitat improvement.
Off-kilter photo but you can see the water level is high and the marsh is happier. This was pasture but the gate in the dike failed, and the farmer decided "it wants to be wetlands." Former wetland, used to pasture cattle for over a century, but still has native plants that will rebound once the dike is breached, in one or two years. Sitka spruce around the edges will also expand.
