Last year, Chicagoland public transit was saved from a fiscal cliff that would have decimated service as we know it.

it’s pretty cool that “big tent urbanism” is politically popular in Chicago We had a summer party and 7 incumbents and 7 challengers (mostly for different wards than the incumbent) showed up

Chicanes are a street design that slows car traffic to safe speeds without using speed bumps, adds permeable planters that prevent flooding, and makes parking easier with angled spaces. Ask your alderman if a Chicane is right for you!
A car drives between two offset bump outs, with angled parking on side before the bump outs and parallel parking on both sides after the bump outs.A row of angle-parked cars on one side of a tree-covered street. At the end of the parking section, a car navigates two offset bump outs that realign the travel lane. Two offset bump outs with flowers and trees planted in them, and a reflective warning sign. Beyond them, the travel lane goes from the right side to the left side of the street, with angled parking on one side.

If you just miss that last bus, you get to watch your tax dollars funding 3 buses that drive away while you have to wait 21 minutes for the next one. We need leaders who not only recognize these frustrating rider experiences, but are committed to long-term solutions (especially on major corridors)

If you proposed turning Millennium Park into a parking lot, there would be mass upheaval. Yet 20 years ago, doing the opposite was criticized. That is the power of the status quo. We need to elect bold leaders who have a millennium-style vision of Chicago's future 🏗️🚇 🚲 🌳

Great piece by @paparidesabike.bsky.social. Too often, our leaders act like change is outside their control when really, it's simply outside their imagination. We have to expand our thinking about what's possible & what can work. We don't have to live this way. chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/...

Chicago lacks the will to curb traffic crashes that kill cyclists, pedestrians
Nationally, deaths of cyclists over the age of 20 have increased almost five times since 1975.

As West Loop continues to grow, we need to be proactive about improving connectivity. Halsted BRT and some bus circulator routes would be (relatively) low effort but massively helpful in supporting office + residential growth in the area. Eventually subway service could be in the cards.

Chicago we are (almost) so back. The Census just dropped new population estimates through July 2025. The estimate has us at 99.6% of the July 2020 population! Upshot: the metro area has fully recovered. www.census.gov/data/tables/...
Bar chart titled "City of Chicago: Year-over-year change in the July 1 population estimate." Chicago lost population in 2021 (-35.7K) and 2022 (-25.3K), then gained population in 2023 (+18.1K), 2024 (+27.6K), and 2025 (+5.3K). Losses are shown in red, gains in teal.Line chart titled "Recovery Since 2020: Population index, 2020 = 100." Two lines track the City of Chicago (teal) and the Chicago metro area (orange) from 2020 through 2025. Both dropped after 2020 and bottomed out in 2022, with the city falling further than the metro. Both have since recovered: by 2025, the metro is back to 100.0 (matching its 2020 level), while the city sits just below at 99.6.

BUILD fact of the day: The plan would allow the option to build small apartment buildings with one stair, which has been shown to be as safe or safer than two stairs. and 68% of Illinoisans supported that
Support for allowing engineers/architects to choose one or two stairways
By urban/suburban/rural geography
All: 68 (yes) and 32 (no)
Urban: 75, 25
Suburban: 66, 34
Rural: 58, 42

Green: Yes, should have option
Red: No, should not have option

The question: Should engineers and architects designing fire safety measures in apartment buildings up to 6 stories tall be allowed to choose between having two small stairways on opposite ends of the building or one large stairway in the middle of
the building? Both versions would be required to have sprinkler systems.

I don't think it's an accident that you see 149 new apartments being built on a parcel that already had a biggish zoning designation. No drawn out discretionary process here. By-right, TOD.

We cannot afford to wait for each municipality to attempt their own version of reform. Housing affordability, slow job growth, and pension liabilities will keep compounding into a much bigger hole to dig out ourselves out of. State legislators: we'll be paying attention 👀
